would like someones opinion on ps3s audio playing blu-ray movies.If hooked up through optical how does the audio compare to regular dvd.

Well, you get surround sound DVD quality (or slightly better than DVD quality) sound (DD 640 for instance, or DTS). Or you can hear PCM / TrueHD but only in 2.0....

It's a VERY good 2.0 though

its usually still better than DVD. a lot of dvd's are only 448kbps audio, whereas Blu-ray is usually 640kbps or DTS 1.5mbps.

The PS3 can also do just about anything any DVD player can do.

The PS3 does a good job playing standard music CDs (it will even retrieve album and song title data from the Internet for just about any music CD you play).

The PS3 will properly play DTS encoded music CDs.

Some PS3 models will play Super Audio CDs.

OP, I don't like your user name, but to answer your question, that was all I had hooked up for a while and I didn't even have a real sub, just sub-assist in my two fronts and it did sound good. And if I had a choice between 2-channel PCM or TrueHD and 5.1 DTS or DD, I'd still usually pick the latter because I do like surround and I think 5.1 most anything sounds better than 2.0 anything.
