Its animation style and approach is quite different from that of Brave Story that we saw recently but this one again shows that anime can look amazing here. Buena Vista Japan did a solid job with the presentation of this film and has provided materials from a multi-disc DVD edition on a single dual-layered disc that is quite simply the reference version of this film.

Awesome! I just wish it wasn't $70 bucks. Not sure I can wait for a domestic release though. Who knows when that'll happen

Just got my copy in today! It is amazing! Innocence is worth every bit of $78 (S&H included). I would pay $100 for this if I had to!

I happen to just be looking here and I saw a new release date.. I was like what?? How did I miss that?? LOL I've been waiting for this for so long I think the other one that went OOP was something like $100+ or so?

No lie: I saw this theatrically when it was first released in the States (no dub, just subs), and this is the film that made me ditch my TV and install a home theater system with a 10 foot projection screen. It's been glorious ever since.

This film truly is stunning on the large screen. My paltry screen does little justice to my initial experience with it. The music is incredible as well. Kenji Kawai for the win!

A question for those who own this release:

During the English dubs scenes where the defense system on the ship is fighting back against the virus, it retains the Chinese dialogue of the defense system. Are there any subtitle options for displaying ONLY foreign dialogue - i.e., the Chinese dialogue of the defense system while viewing the English dub? From my experience with all of the releases so far, it's either subtitles for everything (English and Chinese) or nothing at all.

As I already wrote, the English track forces subtitles for those robots and the lyrics in the music. You can't turn them off, which is annoying.

Ah, I recall you pointing out forced subtitles for song lyrics - I missed where you mentioned the Chinese dialogue of the robot security system being forced as well.

That is very unfortunate that there is no way to turn them off using a standard BluRay player.

It seems that the history of many Ghost in the Shell: Innocence releases on both DVD and BluRay have been beset by issues.

100%. I was kind of dazed leaving the theater in 2004.

Nice that it was not a dub. That's how I would have wanted it to be. That's how I was hoping "The New Movie" would be.

Watched it recently on DVD, it had been nearly 9 years since I had seen it last. Eh. Laughing Man series is actually better than this one, and nothing, NOTHING tops the original GitS. It is definitive. Anime would not exist in the West without Major Kusanagi. But for the collector, I can see why you'd want Innocence as well.

Innocence is a highly acquired taste. We're talking Tarkovsky levels of artyness here.

For the record, I personally liked Innocence better than the 1st GITS on initial viewings of both.

Is this blu going to have both English audio tracks, or just one of them? I think the one I preferred was the one with Batou's deeper voice, but it's been so long since I last watched it. Either way it's a nice film (I picked up the steelbook dvd last go around), but I have to reign in my spending until my tax return comes.

I don't know the answer but I would bet large sums of money it's the same exact disc as last time, so you can just read the review it's likely the same.
