Hello--Everyone
The Longest Day will be released in Blu-Ray June-03-08.
I was wondering if this BLU-RAY Movie will be in COLOR.
The Original version is in Black and White.

Am I the only person that finds It amusing that Connery is front and center on a bridge too far ?? Should be Tony Hopkins IMHO. I think even James Caan had a bigger role. They should have left the faces off this one.

Netflix has The Longest Day and its using a different master than the blu-ray. It's vastly improved and missing the DNR from the blu-rays. Perhaps a 4K is coming down the pipeline.

I just purchased the disc and it will only play 6 seconds on my just purchased Sony x800 4k player...i have the latest firmware and I also verified that the disc plays on my old Samsung Blu-ray player.. Any ideas?

It looks to be from the same source. It has too similar a look for it to be a different master in my opinion. Very clean, and contrast boosted. Pretty sure it's the same as the UV version I've had for some time now.

The movie was apparently scanned at 4K for that initial remaster, so even if they've just de-NR'ed it (see what I did there?) then it should still look pretty good.

God, what I'd give to have this movie handled correctly on disc. If any of you indies are looking for something to licence, you could do worse than giving this classic the respect it deserves. I have rarely seen worse DNR than this abomination of a Blu-ray.

Yes, apart from the three coats of DNR painted on, I think the Blu-ray looks very good, way better than the DVD, but being a war film, a bit of texture & grain wouldn't hurt it. It being Fox, I'd think they're in no rush to reissue any remaster, but would they license it out? Maybe Twilight Time, the higher price point would distance it from the version already out.

They is teeny tiny shots but even so they still appear to have more texture than the Blu-ray and the horrible sharpening isn't there either. Come on Fox, you've re-released Patton now do right by TLD. Gah.

What the... is it just me, or is there a smidgen of fine-grain on display there ala The Hustler? I know those caps aren't exactly exemplary, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look a whole lot fresher than that wax party Fox put out in '08.
