Default Samsung BDP-1000 problem

I've had mine for a couple of months and have watched a few BR movies without any problems to speak of till this evening. I put in a brand new BR DVD and the player would not load the disc. There was a message on the screen saying the disc could not be played.

I tried a few more BR DVD's that we've watched with out any problems in the past...none of them will load!

Next step was to try a SD DVD...loaded without any problems at all.

Went back to another previously viewed BR DVD...same damn thing! Front panel display says NO DISC!

I even tried pulling the plug and letting the unit sit for a minute or two before plugging it back in. Same problem.

Before you ask, yes I installed the firmware update the same day I bought the player.

Anyone else experience this mess?

FWIW, It won't even read a CD-R for a Firmware update now.

The player won't even do a firmware update now.

I think I'll ebay it after it comes back from the shop and stick with a name I've had better luck with in the past.

Don't waste your time and just get a different player. I went through 3 Sammy players with the firmware update and they WILL NOT PLAY SOME MOVIES no matter how many times you call Samsung or send it in for service.

Best Buy thought I was nuts with the problems I was having because no one else had returned theirs yet. Most had not bought over 60 movies in the first 3 weeks either and watched one every night to find problems. I then took the time to go to two other BB's and test my equiptment and all the players they sell(or will sell). The only players the worked for all movies and cd's were the PS3 and the Panasonic. The phillips, Samsung AND the Pioneer locked up solid with some movies.

A friend (manager of Circuit City) was well aware of the Sammy problem even though the Best Buy's were not. Good luck.

I talked to the Samsung CS folks today, they said send it in for service. I wish this had happened within the BB 30 day return window...I'd get my money back.

Unfortunetly getting another player just isn't in the cards right now.

I've got a Pioneer Elite DV-47 that has performed flawlessly since my wife bought it for me about 5 years ago. I've got a Sony 5 disc cd player that still performs beautifully.

Guess it was time to buy a POS.

Frank, I ended up getting the PS3 in place of the Sammy at Best Buy and a few hundred $'s back. I had no intention on getting a PS3, but it turns out the PQ with the game console is better than the Sammy and cheaper to boot. I even bought a PS3 game (Resistance- fall of man)
