I have the z-5300's. Bottom line, they are awesome. I'm sure the 5500's ar ejust as good, just louder. I honestly wouldn't ever need any louder than the ones I have.

They're good computer speakers, and good for music on a computer. As far as home theater, you can definitely do better for sure. But if you only have $200 and desperately need something for HT, then they're probably your best bet.

I use mine for my HTPC setup. Using the analog connection with a Blu Ray drive and it sound amazing. HD Audio is clear and crisp and the sub shakes the house. I put in Underworld to demonstrate the sound difference from my Z-5500 speakers to my Bose system (Acoustimas 15 series II) in my living room and my wife asked me why my computer speakers sounded better than the Bose I told her the computer speakers were better. Bose is not a great comparison but I definitely feel the Z-5500 speakers are a great investment if your going a cheaper route.
Now i have a Polk setup in my living room and couldn't be happier with the sound.

If you are on a budget why not do this? Spend your whole budget on a pair of front speakers then, as you save more money, fill out your system. It may take a few months or a year but you would have a much better system when you are done than buying those computer speakers now.
