Samsung - 61" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV
Model: HL61A650 | SKU: 8749483

Looks like 120hz refresh rate.... is this a good deal at $1,600 ? anyone know if a comparable picture is available at this size?

I have the 61" 1080p DLP model from 2 years ago and it is everything I wanted and more. Never had a single problem with it. The picture is outstanding as well. At that price I'm sure you can't go wrong.

You should check out samsungs website if you haven't done so yet.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/s...&subtype=dlptv

That model is this years replacment for their 61" DLP model.
You might also want to check out the HL61A750 which is an LED DLP model.

No bulbs to replace although they run a bit more expensive.
I have last years HLT6189S LED DLP model and am very happy with it.

If you do a google search of the model numbers you can find different prices from different vendors. Be sure to compare prices by adding cost + shipping. Some of the cheaper price listings charge more for shipping for it ends up being the same or more.

I was drawn in by the 120hz refresh rate.... 1080p, and obviously the size..... but how much are bulbs, and how often would I need them, and can I replace them myself?????

I have the HL56A650. I got it in exchange for a HL-R5668W DLP. To me I just don't like it as much as my old set. However the PQ is better than the old one. when I watch Bluray on it via a Samsung BD-P1200 the picture is wonderful. Except the image is noticable in the upper black bar. It kind of seems like it is reflecting part of the picture where it shouldn't be. There is a very slight hour glass shape on 4:3 material. Very slight! Most people may not notice but I guess when you start looking for flaws. The sound on the TV speakers itself sucks. I'm sure that is not a huge factor but should be noted. No PIP either.

One thing that I may worry about. On my old set and the reason for the exchange is the "light tunnel" kept failing (4 times). The lamp got so hot it melted the glue and the result was a gray shadow running verticaly down the left side of the TV. It was more than a common problem with that model year. I just hope this new one doesn't do the same.

Overall the PQ is really nice. I am happy about that.

Here is a link to the owners thread at AVS Forum. Hope it helps.

I just got home from Best Buy where i just bought the 61" Samsung HL61A750 LED DLP. It gets delivered on monday. I was able to use a %10 off coupon and get it for 1799.99 and got him to knock the Init 63" TV stand from 319.99 to $250 and give us free Delivey all for 3 years no Interest. So as for impressions on the TV i will let you know Monday. But i had it down between the 65" Mitsubishi WD-65735 which had 4 extra inches and $180 less than i paid working for it. But i decided to not go the Lamp route to save some hassle even though i spent a bit more and got less screen i feel i made the right decision.

So the model I have DOES have a lamp, and the Samsung HL61A750 LED DLP
does not? I need to look into a "lamp free one" if possible then!

thanks for the help guys!!!!
