GO HUSKERS.
Default DLP anyone?

I see all these posts about people buying lcds and plasmas.
I went to school for tvs and was a repair man for a year.
Ive seen many different brands sizes and types of HDTVs.

I dont understand why more people like DLP televisions?
Is it because they are not flat?? I they are less than 18' deep now. You can purchase an over 60 inch 1080p tv for under 2000 dollars. The picture quality will compare with anything else on the market. The mitsubishi DLP televisions still amaze me with their picture quality.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail
Just an example.

The DLP chip itself has a million mirrors packed so close together that you should not see much separation in the individual pixels.

The only draw back i can see is having to replace a bulb. You should be buying an extended warranty anyway and it will pay for itself when you warranty out your first bulb.

Lol i say this and I own a 42 inch plasma, but in my defense i fixed it and have a total of 300 bucks in it.

Again this is just my opinion so i would like to see others.

I'm satisfied, for the most part, with my 61" DLP. The increase in quality wasn't worth the small increase (in terms of dollars) in quality, especially in the size range I was looking at. My next TV will most likely be a plasma, but if OLED comes down in price or the Laser TV's are what they're supposed to be, that may change. The price is just a little too steep for plasmas in the >65" range, and the selection is slim.

Default I'm looking at DLP, too!

I like the size for your dollar ratio DLP offers too, and I don't want my tv on the wall, so depth isn't a factor. You mentioned replacing bulbs, you should check out the LED DLP's that Samsung has out now. LED's can last alot longer than bulbs.

There is a 67" (above link) for $2499 that goes on sale every now and then for about $2200ish, and a 61" that I've seen on sale at CC for $1799. Downfall to the 61" is no 120hz. Anyway, hope this helps some, I know I'm sold!

Why do you prefer it over anything else? What makes it so appealing and/or special to you?

Now i must say that i own a 50" dlp. It has a nice display, sometimes i do see the "rainbow" effect when watching dark movies like Matrix Reloaded. That aspect never really bothered me that much. But since i have moved into a new house, i get all the sunshine in the room and i have just bought MSG4 and due to all the sun the room gets i can't even see none of the beginning of Act 4. All the sunlight in the room darkens my screen, even when i am watching regular tv shows. And now i am about sick of it. don't get me wrong, dlp has a nice display when i watch HD programming or play games at night, or when it is cloudy outside, but if it is sunny outside forget about it.

My next purchase will be a lcd or plasma.

Dollar amount to size: dlp
View ability in bright rooms: lcd or plasma for me.

I just got a Samsung 56" DLP with LED instead of the bulbs. The only that this one doesn't have is 120mhz but from what action movies I watched so far I haven't noticed any difference because of the quality of picture it has. I was able to get my DLP for $1500 (less because it was a closeout ) Overall pretty satisfied with my purchase.

I have a Mitsubishi DLP and I absolutely love it. Great picture quality at 1/3 the price for a Plasma the same size.

(I think we're at 4 now!)

Seriously, I got a 65" for what I would have paid for a 42" plasma/LCD.

I wouldn't want to play Warhawk on a smaller screen!

Purchased my mitsu dlp from hhgregg on closeout, it was a great deal.
for 57 inches, i couldn't have asked for a better TV for 1400 bucks.

As far as light vs dark tv viewing, i haven't had any issues, with visibility.
The blacks are very rich with all the lights out and just the lamp on to help with eyestrain...
it looks much better than the samsung LCD in the bedroom too in overall presentation.

Very happy with my DLP, next step is Projector though.

I have a 65" DLP by (I'll probably get burned for this here) Toshiba and I love it.

I just had some minor problems with the lamp but it wasn't blown or anything so the guy at customer service helped me take care of it over the phone. All I had to do was re-set it on its base and it's working like new again.

The main reason I got that TV is because it was for sale at an unbelievable price. My boss has a 65" Pioneer plasma in his living room's wall and he paid $3,000 more for his plasma than I did for my DLP and that's after he got a $3,000 discount on it.

Less than $2,000 for a 65" DLP or over $5,000 for a 65" plasma (that was originally priced at $8,000)? I make decent money, but I still have a good number of expenses, so I went for the DLP.

i didn't see this until now. best looking for live television at that time (120hz) upconverting 1080i images to 1080p, most natural looking colors/tones, and best bang for the buck. the only drawback is i only bought the 56". it still impresses me though. over 2 years later.
