Question Definitive Technology vs Klipsch

my father wants to uprgrade his speakers as i told them for home theater there not good and he just recently got a onkyo 705
I think the definitive 600 system with the 600 center 600 left right 600 surrounds would be good plus buy 2 800 for the front what do you think

Sounds like a good combination to me.... what is his budget? Not sure about a 600 center, and 800 L/R.... what matches? ( I haven't looked at Def Tech's lately, sorry)

Question Definitive Technology vs Klipsch

My father is upgrading his speakers with the new onkyo TX-SR705 he got recently. He wants to spend about 1500$ I think there is two sets for 1300$ each but need help picking one.
He can get the Klipsch Synergy III across the board already has a sub-10 for 1300 $

Or the Definitive Technology 800 across the board 1300$

To clear things up this is 7.1 not 5.1 I need help picking a system with him please respond and vote.

Thank you for the help

bravo +1 ! I like both brands but I prefer Def Tech, but what I think doesn't mean a hoot - its the person that's buying the speakers. Do your father a favor and take him for a listen

Well, I use both! I would suggest one or the other, but that's what my ears say; but really, it depends on him and what he thinks sounds better. Have a good father son day and hit up someplace where you can listen to both.

I have a Onkyo 705 pushing four Def tech 800's and a Procenter1000 with a SVS sub and let me tell you my set up rocks. I got a buddy that picked up the Klipsch Quintent2 set up from Bestbuy. Even though he's got a old Yamaha receiver his system can't touch mine and he tells me all the time he's going to upgrade to Def Tech towers. Now, on the other hand I'm not saying Klipsch is garbage some people really enjoy them. But, to my ears they sound very bright and a little on the high side. I've also demoed the klipsch reference towers and they sound amazing and clearly better than my entry level Def Techs but also at a price twice of what I paid. Take your father to Magnolia and listen to both.

My vote is for Def Tech.

def tech.

not the best way to judge speakers, but i'd get the def techs either way because you can always get klipsch at any old best buy. you can only get def techs at a somewhat "hi end" audio/video store.

yeah, i know some best buys have magnolia in them, but not all of em.

so. besides that pointless little fact, def techs have been my favorite speaker of choice for my price range for quite a few years now.

Having owned and sold speakers from both manufacturers, I lean towards DefTech. IMO, the DefTechs have a cleaner high end and sound more spacious. Both make fine speakers though.

Flip a coin.... it's about as accurate as putting a poll on an internet forum

Go listen to the speakers yourself...... not to mention... why are you dead set on just these two speaker models/manufacturers?

interesting.

when someone doesnt answer a question after one day, heck might as well start another thread with the exact same question to garnish some notice.

heres my answer in the other thread.

sounds like election time...

anyways, both of these speakers have their own distinguishing characteristics,

we also have to consider if we're talking about klipsch's reference line or synergy line.

put it this way,

both these speakers are in different 'weight classes' , if i analyze this as a boxing match.

from the looks of it, you want to get the s-1, meaning synergy series.

id rather get the reference series instead, and you will notice a huge difference.

heck, id get the def techs.

wait.

im confused.

let me start posting my reply in a new thread....

1. RESEARCH
2. LISTEN/AUDITION
3. RESEARCH, AGAIN!
