Default compatibility questions

does anyone know if a blu ray disc burned on a blu ray recorder, such as the sony, will be compatible with regular dvd players? or require a special player or the recorder to play it?

Also once they come out with the PC blu ray burners, will the data disks burned on it be compatible with regular dvd rom drives, or require a blue ray rom drive? thanks..t

A blu-ray disc burned via blu-ray recorder will only be readable by blu-ray compliant players. DVD predates blu-ray spec, and therefore cannot read this higher density medium.

A blu-ray burner will likely only burn blu-ray discs. I suppose it's possible someone will put a DVD-burn ability in a blu-ray burner, but that has nothing to do with the blu-ray spec.

Similarily, blu-ray players will LIKELY have the ability to play DVDs, but this is strictly not required I think.

Remember, all DVD players will not be able to read anything of blu-ray media. period.
