Talking Compatibility?

Someone told me that a Blu-ray player is compatible also with DVD and HD-DVD... I want to make the switch, but not sure which of my old disks will still play..
Can anyone verify this for me no one I have asked seems to know for sure..

Also what is Div-X, I have a DVD player that has this standard, are there any "DivX" videos that are made?

Call me clueless...

If your blu ray player is one of the dual format players from Samsung (BD-P5000 or LG BH200 and I think maybe some other models) then yes, it will play all three formats (Blu, HD DVD and DVD). Otherwise only blu ray and DVD.

As for Divx, it's a format using MP4 compression that is used primarly for video downloads (both legal and illegal ). I have a Philips DVD player that I keep around since it will play anything I throw in it (including Divx). It's a handy format to have around, even if I rarely use it. (e.g., last time I used it was when I downloaded a couple of episodes of Torchwood to introduce a friend to the series...but this was before it was released to HD DVD).

Not trying to be rude, so please don't take it that way- if you don't know what divx is, chances are you're not using it. To me, divx compatibility is highly overrated. Personally I stream my files to the home theater with either the PS3 or my xbox 360 depending on filetype.

I wouldn't worry about divx at all, and unless you have HD-DVD's or plan on picking some up 'cuz they're cheap, I wouldn't worry about that either.
