Default Can you charge PS3 controllers through a USB hub?

I just got my 80gb PS3 2 weeks ago and noticed that there are only 2 USB ports but I plan on eventually having 4 controllers. If I plug a USB hub into one of the ports will I be able to charge the controllers there?

i think that depends on the power the usb hub is getting. some hubs have an external power supply that you plug into an outlet if more power is needed.

Any particular one you would recommend?

not really. if you look at the packaging they will tell you if external power is included. ive had too many things hooked up to a hub that required power at the same time and they wouldnt work until i pluged in the power supply.

When my controller's battery is low, I just plug it into my computer's USB and charge it that way.

I have two controllers since upgrading my regular Six-Axis to a Dual Shock 3, so I just have the spare one plugged into my PS3 until my current one dies. Which has been a lot more frequently as I've been a nut for Disgaea 3, lol. Though in my defense I do a good job with remembering to turn off my controllers when they are not in use.

Don't know if this applies to you or not, but you can also use a USB from a computer to charge your controller.

I do this with my laptop, plug the controller into the laptop and use the wireless feature to use the PS3 at the same time.

This is great if it is more convenient or less dangerous to get to a computer than have your cable running across your living room to the PS3.

I imagine when you look at the specs on the package it will make reference to charging or not. There is a difference but I am not sure why.
I use a Blackberry MiniUSB charger and the wife uses a Motorola MiniUSB wall charger, the Blackberry one will charge both phones but the other will only charge the Motorola. Likewise with the motorola USB sync cable vs Blackberry sync cable, the Motorola just does data transfer, not charging.
The Blackberry data cable will not charge right out of the box however, the RIM desktop software needs to be installed (go figure).

Edit: I just charge them on my PC usb ports when the need arises.(it is charging right now using the Blackberry cable).

For some reason my BB wall charger will not charge my PS3 controller. Laptop using PS3 supplied cable works fine though. Kind of annoying because it would have been so convenient for me.

Wouldn't it be more simple to charge your extra controllers elsewhere ? say in the USB ports of your computer ? it works too you know.

Could have also spent an extra $100-200 and bought the 60gig model when it came out. Nothing like already having four usb ports
