Default John Favreau on Stern yesterday - great listen

John talks with Howard about Iron Man 1 & 2 and about the movie business and Blu-Ray. Good guy and a good listen.

It will...... it'll kill DVD, but not Blu-ray, because those still in the "DVD Market" are looking for cheaper.... those in the Blu-ray market are either looking for the best, or are collectors who don't want to collect something that is already "old" technology.....

that's my take on it at least.

Several things you guys have to remember

John Favreau is a member of SAG, and SAG has spent (justifiably) the last year hitting their members with doomsday scenarios about how if they don't get in now, their money will be gone in the future (probably more true than not, in that their share of rental revenue will be drastically reduced)

DVD, especially rental residuals are the way many people survive, especially on the small film/indy circuit (of which until a few months ago, he was very much a part). So yes, DVD rental is going away to on-demand style services in the next 10 years like he said.

Filmmakers typically are not very savvy/active on the business end of things (there are of course noteable exceptions), even the smart guys, it's just not in the areas they're involved in, so it's not suprising at all that he's saying that.
