Default Setup question

Hello

Second post on these forums and my second question. I've got a nice 42" Panasonic 1080i Plasma with 3 HDMI inputs and a Panasonic HT I bought the same time I bought the plasma.

I'm thinking of going Blu, but my question is this.

The player will be connected via HDMI cable to the TV, but what about the HT system? In order to get the best audio out of this, do I just get an Optical cable and go from HT system to TV?, or is there more I'm not understanding.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to run optical to your HTIB system and use HDMI directly to your TV. You will only, however, get lossy surround.

If your receiver has HDMI, then you will Place the Blu-ray player first in the chain...then go to the receiver (via HDMI) then your main out will go to your new TV (via HDMI)

If you don NOT have a receiver that is ready for this setup, I would recommend using the optical (digital toslink) cable for audio (Blu out to Receiver in.) and then the HDMI (just for video) From the Blu-ray player to the input of the tv. In this situation, you may also want to run an extra set of audio cables to the TV from the Blu-ray player so that you can have sound out of your TV if it is late or you have another reason for not using the receiver.

Please feel free to PM me if you need anything else.

Enjoy it in good health and welcome to The BluWorldOrder.

I am assuming you are talking a HTIB scenario. Going optical is your only option to improve your sound. To get the most out of Bluray you need a stand alone receiver that can accept audio over HDMI to get Truhd, dtsHD-MA and PCM.

Sorry, not sure what HTIB stands for.....Home Theatre..something?

I do know my HT system only has 1 HDMI output and 1 Optical Input.

So....the Blu-Ray player would go to the TV via HDMI, but I guess where I'm stuck is how the audio get's connected. Where is the in/out for the optical?

Yea, I'm a noob

Unless your AV receiver as an HDMI input/output, than optical will give yo the best sound.
Otherwise, HDMI is the best.
Just make sure if you use optical to override the audio from the BD player to support optical and not HDMI.

Blu-ray connected to T.V. by HDMI

Home-theater sound thing you got, connected to the Blu-ray player by optical.... out on the Blu-player, to In on the Home-theater sound thingy.

that will do what you want it to!
