Default Driving pet peeves

I just got to rant about idiots on the road.

1. Nice Cars Holding up Traffic - I will never, ever, ever understand why some clowns spend $50k+ on a car and then drive it like an old lady thats blind. Why spend that type of dough if you aren't going to utilize your cars abilities past that of a Toyota Camry.

2. Blinkers - Nobody can use these things right. People either have the darn things on and never change lanes or they change lanes and never turn the darn things on.

3. Turning Right - This one has really gotten to me lately. Some morons think you need to come to a near stand still in busy traffic to make a right hand turn into a restarant or shopping center.

4. Bases - The douch3bags who think they are cool and have "sweet" audio systems simply because they jack their base up to the point where the person in the car next to them ear's are bleeeding.

5. Rain - People think because its raining a bit that they have to drive on a highway like its a subdivision. Note: Im not talking about people going 5-10 mph slower due to rain, Im talking about idiots goin 45-50 in a 70. Thats a hazard, especially if its raining.

6. The Absolute Imbicile - These ones are actually kind of funny. This is the tard that runs a red light when a cop is right behind him or cuts a cop off while he is speeding at the same time (saw this one yesterday, I lol'd).

7. The Opposite of #1 - These are usually kids who don't have a nice car, but think their Paul Walker from the Fast and the Furious. They usually have Wal-mart rims on their '97 Neon with a little bit of #4 going on and have pissed away money on an NO2 system also. They think that every stoplight means there is a race to the next stoplight.

8. Bad Cellphone Talkers/Texters - If you are going to use your cell when you are driving, learn how to multi-task. Im sick of having to go half the speed limit because some yapper can't do both.

9. Inconsiderate at Stoplights - These are the people who don't pay attention at the stoplight, it takes them 5 seconds to realize the light has turned green. Of course, because they are at the front of the line, they still make it through, while somebody in the rear is the one that has to pay by getting stuck again, when they could have made it, if only the first driver would have been paying attention.

That is all.

By that same token, people who don't realize that the "fast" lane is designed for those who want to go the actual speed limit and the "slow" lane is designed for those who want to go under the speed limit. The "fast" lane is NOT the Autobahn! It does not mean get in their and haul ass!

Also, people who completely ignore yield signs when merging to the right of traffic. There's an entrance ramp to the interstate where I live and if you're turning right onto the ramp you are supposed to yield to those who are turning left. 9 times out of 10 this is completely ignored by those turning right and they just whip onto the ramp regardless if anyone is turning left or not.

People who flat out do not know how to drive through round abouts! They treat them like they are 4 way stops and it holds up traffic!

My absolute biggest gripe though is with people who talk and text on their cell phones while driving. If you're ever out, take the time and pay attention to just how many people you see on their phones while driving. It's pretty alarming!

I haven't read through the entire thread, but here are mine. Some may have been mentioned already.

1. The idiot who misses his/her exit/turn because they're in the wrong lane. Instead of going to the next exit or turn and coming back, they stop in the middle of the road and hold up traffic until they can get over where they want to go.

2. People who don't know what to do when an emergency vehicle is coming. It's simple. MOVE TO THE RIGHT AND SLOW DOWN!!! Don't, I repeat, DON'T look in your rearview mirror and see a fire truck or ambulance right behind you and slam on the brakes. This will only get you rear-ended by something a lot bigger and a lot heavier than you are because they can't stop as easily as you can.

3. People who don't slow down to pass wreck scenes. I have to work at those scenes people. You don't have to rubber neck or slow to a snail's pace, but you can at least slow down some. My wife appreciates it when I live long enough to get off work. Fortunately, now that I'm a command officer I have the authority to have the road shut down completely at my discretion. For those of you who actually can drive and are stuck on the road become parking lot, please accept my apologies for this, but know it's done because of all the other people out there with no respect for our safety.

4. People who follow ambulances through intersections while the light is red. Trust me, the cops can and WILL write you a ticket for this, and rightfully so. They don't care that your relative is in the ambulance because it doesn't give you the right to put the lives of everyone else on the road at risk just because you want to get to the hospital 2 minutes sooner. Trust me, you won't get to see whoever it is in the ambulance as soon as you get there anyway. And take it from me, the ambulance driver will NOT try to get the cop to drop the ticket against you.

5. Tailgaters. If you want to get around me, keep a little distance and flash your lights once or twice. I'll move over and let you by. If you ride 6" off my bumper and start blowing the horn and flashing your lights, I won't move over cuz I'm a little spiteful. Be respectful of me and I'll be respectful of you.

And thanks for starting this thread by the way.

I agree with this; however, if the accident is on the other side of a divided highway, slowing down to gawk at it is not smart. Worst-case, you get rear-ended and need that ambulance you were just staring at, or at best you help perpetuate a new mess of traffic on the side of the highway that was going along well.

oh man i'm gonna be spending a lot of time in this thread.

ill start off saying i'm an excellent driver. i may be eratic or agressive to the casual driver, but i'm out there to enjoy myself and get to a destination. if my friends want to go somewhere, they pick me to drive. i've had a few people wave and honk at me thanking me for helping them thru traffic. so enough tooting my own horn here..but i'm sure there are a bunch of people here just like me.

but rubber neckers are the worst. wanna know why you have 2 hour long traffic jams for a cop pulling over a speeder? because people cant miss a second of whats going on off the road. if theres a wreck, pull over and watch..get out of my way and stop holding everyone else back. you only cause more needless wrecks.

then youve got the people who drive in the PASSING lane going 10 mph under the limit. or if theyre not doing that, they keep pace with the slow lane so you cant pass from either lane

aaarghhh! back with more i'm sure lol.

Most of those I can agree with, but some to me just seem like impatience. I don't see people slowing down for a turn as any problem, they don't need to be screeching their tires as they go through their turn.

And sometimes someone gets distracted at the light. It pisses me off when I see someone honk their horn at the lead driver the second the light goes green.

The one that really churns my butter is the person who drives in one lane and crosses all the other lanes at the last second to make a turn in the opposite direction. Happened to me last night. I was in the right lane and this joker in the left lane cut across in front of me with inches to spare and turned into Burger King.

And for cryin' out loud it's a speed LIMIT, not a suggestion. It means this far and no further. You're not entitled to go faster for any reason. It's a law, get over it.

From someone who has done traffic control (odot)

1. Cell phone users - please if your going to use a cell phone get a hands free device or shut your Fing phone off while your driving! I have no desire to be killed because your conversation is more important to you than the car or person your about to kill because your not paying attention.

2. Multi-tasking is not something to do while driving! please I know your running late but please dont prove to me its possible to do your makeup, brush your hair, text on your cellphone, eat your egg mccmuffin all while driving down the road at 70mph in a 35 MPH zone.

3. to all local small town cops: please when that person on the village council with special priveleges goes barreling through a school zone at 50 mph all while flipping me off for me being a peon state employee please stop them and give them a ticket, our town is small and needs the funds.

4. people with 4x4's: 4 wheel drive doesnt give you a right to be frigging stupid, just because you can accellerate and drive 85 mph on a snow covered road doesnt mean you can stop as fast. (4 wheel drive lets you get stuck in places you cant get stuck in when you have 2 wheel drive). Ive seen more SUVs in ditches than 2 wheel drive cars.

5. anyone behind a snow plow: if your behind me and your so close you cant see your my mirrors guess what? I cant see you !!!!!!!!!!! you see those pretty orange or yellow flashing lights on my dump truck when im plowing?? that means im an emergency vehicle and stay the F out of the way.

6. to the idiot who couldnt wait for me to finish plowing his street he had to drive around me, pull in front, stop get out of his car go in your house all while flipping me off my question is did you have fun trying to get your car out when i buryed your dumb ass in? couldnt you have waited 6 seconds for me to clear your road.

7. alcoholics- the worst, I know you like to drink but please dont prove to me you can drink 2 cases of beer and still be coherant while driving! get a designated driver call a cab, dont Fing drive plastered, im sure my best friend would like to be still alive today and id like to be alive tomorrow.

ok im done ranting i feel better.

It's really nothing personal, but you're the type of person that I want to pull out of their car and beat them until they bleed.

Some of us would like to get home. So that guy sitting at the green light in first position needs to keep himself focused and NOT distracted by anything else but his driving, he deserves a ticket for stopping traffic if he does not move within 2 seconds. I really don't want to sit through 2 or even 3 lights because the idiot wanted to check his emails on his blackberry.

The guy that changes lanes and weaves all over needs to have his ability to drive taken away for awhile until he can learn to drive safely.

As far as speed limits go.... if its 45mph and everyone else is doing 50 or even 55, then everyone expects you to do that as well. YOU are backing up traffic and causing people to swerve around you. We know its a law, but in most cases around me, you can safely go 60mph in a 40.

And yes, people really should slow down while turning. I've seen too many people around these beaches here get hit or nearly hit by cars turning too quickly when they are walking across the sidewalk.

I've seen people get speeding tickets for going 1 mile over the speed limit, guess that cop really needed to make his quota. Oh and my father almost got a ticket once for going 10 miles under the speed limit while he was lost...the police officer who pulled him over thought he was drunk because he was going so slow. I used to really rip the speed limit while driving but now I try not to go more than 8-10 miles over so I don't get pulled over. I haven't hit another car in 7 years because unlike most drivers I try to stay as aware as possible of ALL the other cars around me while I'm driving.

I'm sorry but if the speed limit is 65mph and I'm in the left hand lane doing 65mph, it's everyone else's problem if they want to break the law and go faster. F--ck them if they want to drive like a bat out of hell! They should have to go around ME if they want to break the law. Just because I choose to uphold the traffic laws and drive the actual speed limit, why should I move over to allow others to pass? Like I sad, left hand lane is not the frickin' autobahn! It's for those who want to drive the speed limit. The right hand lane is for those who want to drive UNDER the speed limit!

I saw a girl run into a power pole while she was on the phone. This is probably the most dangerous issue on the roads, stack that to Rain driving and/or Snow driving...

Default Construction Zone

Gotta add one

- People who speed up to get ahead of you before the lane merges either left or right due to construction and slam on the break to get down to 55 mph in the work zone.

Of course they know waaaay in advance the lane will be merging, but they just have to get 1 or 2 cars ahead.

This is happening all the time, think of how faster they'll get there if they squeeze in ahead of you and immediately slow down. It just doesn't make sense! There was a big accident on I-90 involving 3 cars Sunday b/c of this!

Pass them when you are out of the construction zone, yes you can wait and be that patient.

i really hate that guy that will get right up on your tail or try to pass you on the shoulder when you are actually following the speed limit in a work zone. workers lives are at stake, don't be a d1ck.

there needs to be more cops ticketing people in work zones, rarely see them in them.

i saw the greatest thing about two years ago when i was on a road trip.

we were on an interstate and something had happened up ahead (never did find out), but traffic was backed up for miles. This arse was trying to pass all the traffic by driving up on the shoulder.

i guess another car saw him coming and swerved out to the shoulder to block him from going any farther, just as the guy saw the car blocking him from going any farther up, another car came up from behind him and sandwiched him in.

when things got cleared and traffic started to move again, both drivers declined anybody letting them back onto the road. i guess they just sat there blocking him so he had to wait til the very end.

the blocked driver tried to get out of his car and i guess yell at one of the guys blocking him, but the guy blocking him was probly six-five 250lbs and he even more embarassedly went back into his car.
