Default BD/HD DVD <1% of Rentals at Netflix

An interview with the CEO of Netflix over at the WSJ. A few comments about Blu-ray and HD DVD:

Netflix also faces competition on other rental service that provide BD and HD-DVD. If there was no competition AND BD wins the war, the percentage will increase.

Too bad that the reporter didn't interview a rental service that rents BD movies and PS3 games. The figures would be interesting to see.

there could be several reasons that BD/HDDVD rentals are only 1%.

there are only a few new movies released on blu-ray every week meaning; movies that have come out in the last year, and just the number of releases in general. there are a lot of big name movies that are released on dvd but not BD (blood diamond), not to mention that it appears these online rental services stock much fewer BD of each title. i've been waiting for flyboys BD to become available from blockbuster total access for over a month. the lower number of players will have an impact as well.

I am surprized..... I wonder how many people that have BD/HD players are even aware that NF/BB does Blu and HD?

I have seen BDs & HDs for rent at brick & mortar stores... they charge a premium price over regular dvd's. Kudos to NF & BB for not doing such.

I am a longtime Netflix user and just bought the discounted Samsung. Every movie in my queue available in BR(about 75%) have been changed over. Maybe as the BR player prices drop, this percentage will grow as I am sure there are guys out there like me who were just waiting for a price break.
