I have been on this sire for awhile and have seen some outrages prices for speakers, amps, receiver and other components for hometheater.

I have been wanting to ask a question about pricing and now this is a perfect example for my question.

Most of the items such as this amp are they really, I mean really worth paying $350,000 for it. Why is this worth soo much? How does this make the sound worth spending that much money for it?

Second part of my question my be dumb, but here it is:

Does the equipment that records it costs as much? if not how will this improve what was recorded on something much cheapier.

I guess what goes in, can't come out any better. Of course you can change a sound effect or a persons voice, but make it better.

It was in another thread someone (I think Big Daddy, I might be wrong) had posted a link to a site for exoctic speakers. The prices I had seen were totally out there and I was thinking you have to be a complete bonfone to actually pay some of those prices.

I don't care if your money was endless, the prices just didn't make any sense at all.

I AGREE !! I remember that & the first set of speaker's was like 10' by 10' & took up 3/4 of half the room for each side & wanted $1,000,000..

To 99.9% of people its not, but keep in mind we don't know what these parts are all made of. although I doubt it, it could be made of a solid gold chassis, or something. The price is outrageous, and obviously will sound amazing, but in the years that I have put into audio have taught me that the mark up on AV equipment isnt as high as most people think. 30% is the mark up that I usually see. These tubes that they are using may be extremely expensive for them to purchase, or maybe they manufactured the tubes themselves and havent found a way to make them more efficient prices yet. Just some things to think about whether the price is $500 or $350,000.

It is the nature of a capitalist and free market economy. Something is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

There is a crazy guy in China who is called "The World's Number One Audiophile: Mr. Ji Hui Li". Each room in his house has audio equipment that cost 6 figures. He recently bought the entire LP collection of the main library in Japan. Go to this site. Make sure you click on the pages and go through his whole house. Start by looking at his power conditioners. He has separate ones for each floor.

well this is not really a stupid ? most people don't know how much a lot of things cost.

I just got done doing a record where the console was a little over 1 million, the tape machine was about 100 grand, the PT rig was 50 grand. plus the rooms and treatment, outboard gear which can easily be millions, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cables and thousands upon thousands of dollars in mics.
