Default Captions

I am deaf and have to use the captions. There are a couple of problems. The captions are always in white, and anytime they are against a white background, they become nearly invisible. When my video screen has a margin at top and bottom and the captions consist of two lines, the bottom line is in the bottom margin and the top line is in the picture. Can these be fixed?

I have a Sharp aquos TV Aspect ratios: 4:3 Letter box, 4:3 Pan-scan, 16:9 Wide and 16:9 normal. Is this set automatically?

Yes, it should play at the aspect ratio the player sends..... so the next thing to do, is to check the aspect ratio you have the player set to, and make sure you're not zooming, stretching, etc....

Check the setup options for the player also.... some have subtitle location options.

I find nothing that gives me any control over captions. One disk had larger captions for some of the dialogue and much smaller captions for other parts. (This may have been different languages.) My cynical feeling is that no one monitors the captions as part of the production. Using captions on CNN, etc. is crazy. Oh yes, I use 'captions' and 'subtitles' interchangeably.
