Has all the Stephen King adaptations been beneficial for film?

Carrie (1976), The Shining (1980), Stand by Me (1986), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Green Mile (1999), I agree on those.

And the rest...???

The Mist except the ending which was rather cheapen with that scream was pretty good considering it's budget.

Misery...arguably the best female villan of all time in Anne Wilkes (maybe only behind Glen Close in fatal attraction)

I'd be willing to give Misery (1990) an Honorable Mention. For Kathy Bates and Jame Caan though, not Rob Reiner.

That would be my only add-on though.

That ending is absolutely fantastic... I like most of his movies, weird and sometimes not the best acting, but i like his stuff...

Lots of good and bad films have been derived from his novels and other writings. It usually ends up being how well the director translates the material to screen. An underappreciated work was the tv mini-series "Storm of the Century".

That was a mini-series not film. A different animal, but it was great. Better than the Stand.

King endorsed the ending and said he liked Darabonts ending more than his own.

Personally, I thought it made an already great movie into an excellent one.

I still would like to see the novella's ending on film. But I agree, that ending packed a punch.

I also liked The Dark Half and Silver Bullet

Another honorable mention. Quite a strong obscure choice, but it wouldn't make it on the main list. Good suggestion though.

Even with the bad ones, not many authors can say so many of their books have become films that are considered classics. Carrie, The Shining, and The Shawshank Rdemption are all considered classics in their respective genres and after those three are a long line of very good films so beneficial? Absolutely.
