They just demo'd their new panels and I believe their new LCDs at CES too I think.
Sad. The LCD is going to be the death of all other technologies until something comes along that is cheaper. ![]() Cheap, cheap, cheap. That is the way we are headed. |

I wonder if this is going to positively affect current model Kuros prices or negatively. If this causes a price drop, I will definitely move up to the 6020. It's sad news, but looking at the 5020, I can honestly say the picture is so good I don't see myself upgrading until OLED or something like that is a reality in sizes 50" and up. I too hope they at least go through with their upcoming BD players. I was looking forward to getting the mid range one.

Unfortunately, I agree that this does not bode well for the future of plasma, though it should open the door for more Panasonic market share. I'm glad I have my plasmas, and it looks like I will definitely be upgrading to a 58" 1080p sometime this year. |

Take 100% black signal, measure. Take 100% white signal, measure. What's the ratio = dynamic contrast ANSI contrast will probably show those sets to be closer to 1,800:1, a far cry from what the Kuro's are seeing (almost 15,000:1) Last edited by dobyblue; 02-09-2009 at 04:58 PM. |

Actually it's realistic.
Are you familiar with ANSI? The Kuro's almost hit 15,000:1 and that's the best on the market. What is dumb is putting any faith in dynamic contrast figures. Last edited by dobyblue; 02-09-2009 at 04:57 PM. |

from ultimate AV mag Kuro review "i measured an ANSI contrast ratio, using the standard 16 square checkerboard, of 2,600:1. That's not a misprint with an added zero. Amazingly, the black squares on the ANSI pattern ranged from 0.006 to 0.009fL—nearly the same as the full-field black. While you'll never see an ANSI contrast this good in a real room even with the lights off, it's still the most impressive ANSI contrast measurement I've yet measured on a display personally" I just got the 500A Kuro (UK Model), what a picture!!
