I have been all this past week. I got an Integra DHS 8.8 HD-DVD (basically an XA2) for an unbelieveable price. I've been getting all kinds of HD DVD's for $5 or better and they are movie that I want in HD, but I don't really want to spend $20-$25 on the blu-ray for. In these times if I can save a little money and still get good performance, I'm all for it.
It's actually been kind of nice since I have been able to buy some Warner titles that I have been wanting that had better audio on HD DVD (Phantom of the Opera for example). Why not, it's not affecting the format war anymore, so it doesn't bother me to clean up somebody's inventory of HD DVD's and I save a fist-full of cash in the process. -K |

No, I wouldn't. I'm actually looking to unload my A30 and 25 discs because I haven't used the thing in months.

Yeah I still do. I have 2 players one standalone and one on my laptop. So, I still buy them. Most only have Dolby Digital Plus for audio while very few have Dolby TrueHD though.

I would wait for the re-release with a better encode that takes advantage of Blu-ray's capabilities - and better audio. |

I've thought about buying The Departed on HD DVD to hang on the wall. Kind of like a trophy.
![]() Seriously though, I see no need since I never bought into it to begin with. Now if the format had hung around a little longer and I was sure players would be available in the future, I might would. But I doubt it. |

Just get Matt Damon's head, it would work SO much better. Quote:
What's the point in going out of your way to keep as many players as possible up and running in the house? And once the HD-DVD player breaks down, you're up a certain creek without a means of locomotion if you know what I mean. Spending money on HD-DVD now is more of a waste of money than it was DURING the format war. Logan |

The way I see it is, you aren't saving money...you are instead adding 8$ to the cost of the eventual Blu-Ray purchase you will make when it's released better or when your HD player dies.
If it's a movie you don't care enough about to rebuy, then why are you buying it now? Either way you blew 8$ on nothing. |

My HD DVD player will remain hooked up until it dies so if I see a movie much cheaper on HD DVD then I will buy it on that format. I'm all about saving a few pennies now.
This scenario isn't likely since I bought pretty much what I wanted before the format went away that I doubt I'll be faced with this but if I was, I would do it in a heartbeat. |

Agreed.... when hd-dvd died..... I got a bunch of great movies for $3-10 each. I even got an extra player for $25 just to make sure I'd always have access to my collection. I haven't gone looking to see if anyone still has any great hd-dvd deals in a long time though. |

The way I see it is, one day your HD-DVD player will stop working and chances are you won't be able to fix it because players aren't manufactured anymore and parts will be non existant eventually, so therefore paying an extra $15 or $20 for the blu-ray disc will safe guard you in the next phase of life, when the next technology is brought forward and it's compatible with all dominant past disc formats such as CD,DVD & blu-ray etc.
buying the HD-DVD disc will hurt you slightly in the long run, they aren't as protective as blu-ray discs and the players are phased out, one day they might not be able to be played ever again, unless you have multiple HD-DVD players lying around. that's my rant anyway |
