Ok, so I work at a retail store and recently we have been receiving a bunch of credit card disputes, we check ids and everything. Purchases are being disputed about a month or 2 later after it was bought, even more. To me this seems fishy since they should have disputed the stuff around the same time since normal people check their credit cards and stuff almost everyday.
Or am I missing something? I never made a dispute ever, do you dispute something and takes the credit card a while for it to reported to the retailer or what? |

It is against Visa's rules to ask for ID and doing so could lead Visa to stop allowing your business to use their cards. http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/12/data-collection.html

I just can't understand why some people huff and puff when they're asked to verify who they are at the point of purchase, then later on, when they're the victims of credit card fraud, bemoan how easy it is for thieves to rack up cc purchases. And to the OP, do you know what the consumers are saying when they file their disputes? I've known some cc companies to be very aggressive when it comes to dispute claims. |

![]() ![]() As far as disputing.... I disputed $2,200 once because an airline didn't honor their refund policy...... I never saw one dime from it. EDIT: and as far as checking IDs..... It'd break a forum rule if I took a picture of what I wrote on the signature line on the back of my Best-Buy card..... (I've since canceled it) because those people irritate me so badly when making what I consider "Normal" purchases. |

Well my store is in a shady area. It's werid but it's a coorporate store no money lost to me, just manager nagging at you like a girlfriend or wife on her period asking why you spent money on bluray and crap. Well the signatures have to match the receipts and what not so whatever.

Personally, I think you should have to show an ID to use a credit card to prove it is your card. I don't sign mine, I write "ask for ID". That way, unless the crook makes a fake ID to go with your card, you are covered. How does the store dispute the dispute? Seriously. If you don't have the card-owner on camera making the purchase, then how do you prove the purchase was not made illegally? Do the card companies automatically side with the cardholder? I've only had on experience with a stolen card. My Visa was never returned to me from a dinner, and I didn't realize it until the next day. I immediately called the bank and every charge made after my dinner was removed from my account. Turns out the waitress stole the card and she and her boyfriend used it to buy dinner later that night, put gas in the car and buy $30 worth of crap at Wal-Mart. I hope it was worth the criminal charges they faced. Idiots. |
