Default Evangelion: 1.11 You Are [Not] Alone May 27

I really, really want to see this but I get the feeling the Japanese are not going to share the love and include either subtitles or dubbed track.

I hope I'm wrong.

They are usually good with Evangelion releases with English subtitles. I wasn't a big fan of the English track for this series regardless.

This is great to hear. When you day "They" are you talking about the company that owns the Evangelion series?

I was very disappointed to learn that BUbblegum Crisis is available in Japan but no subtitles or english audio. And I've noticed that most releases don't have either.

I'll be cautiously optimistic.

I wish someone, somewhere would unleash the entire catalog of NGE on Blu. That would be a day one purchase for sure.

I hope this release at least has Engilsh subs..which truth be told, i would rather listen to it in Japanese.

very unlikely. Funimation has bought the US rights, and obviously doesn't want a Japanese release messing with that.

the Japanese releases with subs are the ones without US licenses, or where the same company owns it here

I agree with Jeff. Funimation hasn't given a specific date for a U.S. release yet and a subtitled Blu-Ray would devalue that license.

I've already used a .srt file to add subs to my DVD. (Way too much effort though) This time I might try an overlay program if Funimation hasn't given out a more firm date by May.

Any word on whether this will be getting the much hoped for US release?
Just saw the limited edition of the last release (version 1.0) (standard DVD) on Ebay for about $75.
Man, it sure looks pretty, but not knowing Japanese, and the fact that it's pretty much just a rehash of the first 6 spiodes of the series made me put my wallet away.
Hopefully ADV (are they still around?) will put it out here.

Need my Eva fix on Blu!
Seriously I thought this would be one of the first series ported over to Blu for US audiences. That or Cowboy Bebop.
Sorry DBZ doesn't count.

I'm not that big a fan of anime, but I watched the series about ten years ago and liked it a good deal. It's my understanding that this is kind of the first part of a condensed version of the series, yes?

Just for those interested : the blu-ray from Funimation is region AB !
Didn't think Funimation would do region free since they region locked almost all their releases, so great news !
Will buy it on day 1 next week.

Has anybody recently ordered this via Amazon.com and does it still come with the Dipipak in a slip?

Thanks - W.

They dropped the digipak years ago. I got my copy in early 2013 and it came in an eco-case without the booklet with a not-shiny slipcover that also has this lovely error...
http://i.imgur.com/zoWEHjD.jpg (I got the booklet meant for the digipak from FUNi when I contacted them about it.)

Based off a recent unboxing I saw, it now comes with the booklet and not in an eco-case. If only I had that happen to me...

You have to search for used copies to get the digipak set which also has more extras.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the 1.11 extras, as they're merely a couple trailers. Although it's still funny that Funi didn't think to clear the music for said trailers (Utada's cover of "Fly Me to the Moon") even though the song doesn't appear in the movie itself...

I know for a fact that the HK releases of 2.22 and 3.33 keep their original telop screens, and presumably the HK release of 1.11 from earlier this year does as well. I haven't found any reviews that could confirm it, though.

As for HK 2.22's quality, it is indeed a BD-25 and has a lot of compression artifacts. I wouldn't bother with it, despite it having unmolested telops. It is still in print if you must have it. The BD-50 HK 3.33 is very good though, and is certainly better than Funi's (which also has a lot of compression artifacts / banding).
