Default Panny 58 800u or the new P54S1

Both will be about the same money and I have compared them on panasonic, is there really enough difference in 4" and is THX that big of a deal?

The new on has a 600mhz subfield drive and native contrast ratio or 40k..

I know both will be a big jump from my 42" 720 samsung lcd (which is 15,000 native) but which in any of your opinions has more bang for the buck..

I want to stay right in that 2400 range

Is there any way you can pass this savings onto a fellow forum member?

The 800u is easily the best set between the two. Its THX certified with much more accurate colors. The S1 may have slightly better blacks, and that's a big maybe, and it certainly wouldn't be enough to overcome the color accuracy issue which I value just as much as black level. THX really does make a huge difference. The 800u is much more adjustable too. From the review I've read on the S1 Panasonic has given few adjustments in the menu. The S1 is this year's entry level set and the 800u was last year's top of the line. Go with the 800u if you don't want to wait for the V10 series that's about to be released.

The -850 was the top of the line, but you had to have it ISF calibrated to get a more accurate picture than the -800. The -850 included the Digital Cinema Color that's moved into a few sets this year as well as the full PRO settings menu.
