Default Boycott Universal

If Universal Studios won't release their movies on Blu-ray, then don't support their movies in theaters or on standard def DVD. Are you in?

Spread the word!

Yeah, I've been doing this as well; I did not think it would make a difference in the end but still have no plans to support universal as long they continue to be hddvd-only. I only buy Blu-Ray now and don't buy anymore SD DVDs, but I have no problem refusing to see any movie that comes to the cinema that's made by universal.

I haven't and won't give them any of my money. It's not like it's tough, though, because I don't buy DVDs at all, and nothing they have in the theaters is at all interesting to me.

I don't buy any Universal HD-DVD movies even though I have a player, ever since I got my PS3, I buy Blu-ray only and slowly selling off my HD-DVD collection (small).

I think I'm right there with ya. Only been buying Blu-ray releases for the past half year or so and the only movies I've seen in theaters are Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3. GOD I CANT WAIT FOR THOSE 2 TO COME OUT TO BD. Saw Spider Man 3 in IMAX and it was AMAZING

I havent bought a single NBC or Universal film since I found out PS3 is going to sport a Blu-ray drive. Did my homework, realized backing HD DVD is a losing battle, and said to myself, 'why would I spend the money now for something I'll have to replace cuz it will be useless in a couple years?"

Only exception will be.... Wife wants to see it or have it in the house... Like I said above, that will just be a losing battle if I tried to argue with her lol

Sorry, no boycott for me. When Eureka is released on dvd this July, I'll be there to purchase it. I just don't take the format war all that seriously. I don't fear a Blu-ray demise anytime soon, Universal or no Universal.

Yeah, I can't be dissing HD, since I own one. I got it for UNIVERSAL titles, like KING KONG, THE MUMMY, old horror flicks, BTTF, stuff like that. In the long run, I think BD wins, because it has PS3 and frankly is better. But someone has to explain to me this: Why when I was at BEST BUY, the sales guy told me that they had to return a lot of titles (in both formats), earlier in the day? Could it be that they need to re-price them? (Best Buy puts stickers on their product).

Or is there another reason? I am not sure. But I know that boycotts have consequences that we don't always see. What about the poor schlub that works for Universal, that has nothing to do with the format war? What about the guy at NBC who is a page, and couldn't care less about HD vs BD?

I have way more BD titles then HD, and I will always have more BD then HD. But it's keen that I can now enjoy what I want, when I want. Universal will, in all likelihood, fold under the weight, and that will be that. If you really want to have BD win, then just buy more BD. Money talks and bull hockey walks.

You should know that Sony Picture is only producing BD and no HD-DVD. So, to be fair, we should boycott Sony Picture as well....

As much I as I want Univ to support BR, I rent 90% of my movies and buy the other 10%. I have a HDTV and want to see as many movies as possible in the HD format.

Therefore, if the Toshibas continue to drop, and Univ is still goofing off in the Fall, Ill be buying a HDDVD player to compliment my BR player.

Same here, well almost. I bought 2 Indie flicks on SD... but, given the titles Universal has coming out, this will be an easy pledge.

Default Let 'em hear about it

It does help (if large amounts start coming in) to e-mail your thoughts to Universal. Tell them what you want (their movies on blu-ray) and maybe reference Ken Graffeo's comment that he thinks competition is good (so why not support Blu-ray too, then?). Then let Universal know that you're so upset about this that you're not going to buy any of their movies on any format or see their movies in the theaters until they go nuetral.
