Default Which is best protection against burglary or thief from enter your home.

Pick the one that you think work the best. That mean gun isn't gonna work and probably got stolen too if you are not in home.

Thiefs like to enter your home out of view so they'll enter backyards. My friend's dog surprised a would be burglar this way during sleeping hours. Burglar smashed down a wooden gate as he/she left. The loud crash woke my friend up.

An alarm sign + alarm system is best way to go. Dogs will only notify the owner only.

A gun. Preferably a .45 or better, or a shotgun with a pistol grip.

A burgler who knows what they're doing will cut the phone & power, and then will kill your barking dog since the dog is constantly telling him where he is.

Signs are as effective of a deterrent for burglers as they are for smokers, litterbugs, speeders, shoplifters, cell-phone users, etc.

If you're put in the unfortunate situation where someone may try to do you harm it is always best to be in a position where you are capable of protecting yourself.

Afterall...when seconds count the police are minutes away. Besides, the courts have ruled that they (police) are not required to defend or protect you anyway.

.357 SIG is better.

Bottom line, dog is best. Alarm takes forever to rspond too, if at all. If you are not home, your only hope is to deter the guy to the next house over. If they guy really wants to rip you off, only being home will slow him down.

As usual, Camper, we're on the same wavelength. For when I'm home:
Watchmen1911_A_sm.jpg
When no one is home, we've got an alarm and a good neighborhood watch program, but more importantly we have insurance.

Living in an area with very little crime and locking the door. I suppose my dog would start barking if anything happened but I live on a busy street and can't imagine anyone would target my house (knock on wood).

All you really need is a security system sign in front of your home to act as a deterrant. If that doesn't stop them, then they will be some very motivated theives, which would probably not stop for anything.

Default How does a gun stop a burglar when you are not @ home?

there is another thread like this. And I hate to tell all you gun owners this, but a gun does not prevent burglars from entering your house. A burglary occurs when no one is home. A gun is useless if you are not at home. A gun is probably most useful during a home invasion, which occurs when someone is home.

When I'm home is the only time I care about someone breaking in. If we're all out and we come home to an empty house, then I file the police report and call my insurance company and get new stuff.

But since my wife is at home with the kids during the day, the gun is quite relevant

camper has it exactly right, if someone breaks into my home when i'm there w/my wife and kids in the house, too bad for them, protecting my family is the 1 and only thing on my mind @ that point.

if no-one is home and my house gets broken into, oh well, looks like all that money i pay for ins. is finally gonna pay off.

perhaps you guys don't get it or can not read. The thread is about preventing burglaries. If you or your wife is home it is not a "burglary" it is a "home invasion". Maybe they don't have those in your neck of the woods but it would not be classified as a burglary if you are home.
