Not much information is out. But it seems Wei Zhao will cast as Mulan.

Wei Zhao isn't too well know in the west, but she is more popular than Zhang Ziyi in Mainland China, due her very popular tv series in over there, and many film that didn't release in the west.

I think this mulan film is gonna be direct from chinese perspective than those disney version of mulan.

Female action leads in Hong Kong are few and far between these days. That’s why my interest was piqued recently after hearing about a new Mulan movie being developed. Today, we learned that Vicki Zhao Wei (Painted Skin) will be playing the legendary female Chinese warrior Hua Mulan–a character popularized internationally in Disney’s animated film Mulan.

Part of the new movie’s cast and crew, including director Jingle Ma and stars Zhao Wei and Chen Kun, were officially introduced at a press event announcing the movie. Previously attached to director Stanley Tong, the project initially favored several other stars including Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh, and Liu Yifei.

Also announced as the actor that will portray the younger Mulan is Xu Jiao, who some may recognize as the female perfomer who played Stephen Chow’s son in the movie CJ7.
