Since November 17th 2006 (the date I got my PS3), I have purchased 1 (one) DVD. It was a Sigur Ros Music DVD that I didn't think would come to BD. My brother has now said he had heard it was. (shrug)
If I have my way, I will never buy a DVD again. Last edited by doctorsteve; 07-07-2008 at 01:56 AM. Reason: Spellling... |

Only DVD's I ever see myself buying is The Wire S05 since I doubt it will even ever make it to Blu Ray and it's a full screen show so it doesn't really matter. Other than that there is no DVD I will ever buy again, and haven't bought one in over six months. Straight Blu here.

Nope... haven't bought a dvd for a very long time- I'm actually in the process of liquidating my dvds to my friends and using the funds to pre-order some new blus coming this fall. I still keep the classics on dvd, what hasn't been announced or rumored to be coming to bd at least.

I stopped buying feature film on DVD in late 2005. A few months ago I got rid of my small collection of DVD movies (about 60), keeping only mp4 rips of some of the titles for portable play. So no more worries here about "double dipping" ...
I still occasionally buy classic SD television shows on DVD though. |

I stopped buying DVD's when I started in on Blus, which was before I even had on HDTV or a blu player. I didn't want to buy something I would want to upgrade sooner rather than later.
I won't say "never," but if I buy any more DVD's they would be something like a guitar or golf instructional DVD, not a pure entertainment deal like a movie. |

I'll buy whatever the hell I want......... DVD, Blu-Ray, HD DVD....... if I want it, I'll buy it..... *wife yells in the background*..... oh... I'll buy nothing and like it
![]() EDIT: Thought about this while my wife was doing one of her exercise DVDs she does when it's a rainy-day, and she doesn't want to go for her morning run......... Would I EVER buy my wife an exercise movie on Blu-Ray???? HELL NO..... she can get those cheap things for $10 a pop..... why would I spend $25 for it on Blu (small stuff like that never goes on sale either ![]() I think, for the first time, since Blu-Ray players (all) support standard DVDs, we'll see DUAL FORMAT...... I know that may leave a bitter taste in your mouth, but I remember getting my new Jeep, and there was a little DVD in it for "instructional off-roading" "Advertisements" "FAQ" etc.... and although I never watched it, I can only imagine the fact that DVDs can be produced for so cheap (think of all the AOL discs ever sent through the mail for instance) that there is no reason DVD won't remain the major format for things such as instructional videos, and promotional material.... the only reason these types of videos got phased out of VHS is because they're bigger (More $$$ to ship) and less and less people had VCRs because they broke and never replaced them since by that time they had 2 or more DVD players........ with Blu-Ray players capable of playing DVDs, I don't see how there won't ALWAYS be a market for DVDs........ I will never buy another New Release DVD, but TV shows on DVD and some discount ones are hard to pass up. Like today I picked up Reservoir Dogs for $5 at Wal*Mart, it's hard to say it's worth paying like $30 more for the bluray version of that. But for a new movie I'd buy the BluRay since the difference in price is usually only about $10.

DvD s now for me are a rental format. I think ppl who are still throwing thousands of $$$ into a DVD based movie collection are not not looking at the big picture and the huge swing in digital media that's going to start in 09. And these ppl will ultimately be made to look like fools in the next 4 years or so.
Ive been banned or suspended from a few DvD sites for posting that sort of stuff. All i can say say is in 4 years im going to laugh my arse off at them with there huge 2000 odd DvD collections. That they will be begging to get rid of cause they have no space to buy Blu-Ray discs. But wait no shop will buy them lol |

Geeze, what a loaded question to ask a bunch of die hards.
![]() I wanted Shrek 3 on DVD to complete my collection because Dreamworks was HD DVD exclusive at the time. Got it as a gift. Same goes for Transformers because not having it at all was not an option. Spider-man 3 was a Christmas gift on DVD, so now I have the trilogy on DVD and BD. But no, I can not think of a single movie I would simply must have on DVD because there was no hope of it being on blu-ray. My love affair with DVD is over. ![]() |

Seems like a bunch of tech-snobs here, and not a lot of film fans...... I'm rebuying as much as possible on Blu, because I recognize the improvements over DVD..... but to think all of my DVDs are somehow a measure of my foolishness???? Well.... if you don't enjoy FILM, then I guess you don't understand. |
