Default Buying a new HDTV?

I am getting ready to replace my old 52" projection tv. I was looking at a 52" Mitsubishi DLP. Not sure the model number, but I can get it. I am wondering what kind of picture will it get with Blu-Ray playing in my PS3. I already have a Toshiba 25" LCD widescreen. It is only 720 though. But the picture is great. Blockbuster where I live has a 42" Sony Breva LCD on display playing Blu-Ray and it looks amazing. I drool everytime I look at it. Basically I know what kind of picture to expect out of the LCDs but don't have any experience with DLP. The place where I will buy it had it playing soap operas and it looked nice. Just curious about the Blu-Rays and also sports with Dish Network. Don't have the HD programming yet. Thanks for any help!!

I like the LCD's better...thats just my opinion...and nothing under 42"
i have a 52" lcd..and a 42" lcd
both 1080p
Thats my preference...i got them both brand new at best buy
spent alot of money..but i saw you can buy the same tv..with no box for cheaper..and get a extended warranty on it...i would look into those first.
None you like get a new one...
The tvs without the box are either returns...or store displays...if there not alot of money off of the regular price..i would just go brand new...but if its a steal...Run with it...why not

I suggest LCD over DLP. Many will say that DLP looks just as good. But, LCD takes up less room and just looks so much sleeker as a unit. LCD is becoming the industry standard and DLP is already getting very near the "outdated technology" state. Since Laser and OLED TVs are just around the corner, it would be better for you to "keep up with the Jones'" and get something that will be supported longer... LCD.

Just my opinion though, and plenty will refute me on this.

EDIT: OH YEAH!!! Nothing under 42" 1080p or you are, once again, looking at "outdated technology" as well.

Default Have a look

Look on the other side of the fence.......Plasma Full HD, I own a Panasonic FullHD Viera 800 series, absolutely loooooooove it, great inky blacks and excellent reange of colours, price wise you get more real estate for you buck, with the new generations of panel the screen burn is almost a thing of the past, as for screen size no less than 42", each type of panel either LCD or Plasma have their pros and cons, howerver personally i will never go back to LCD. Happy viewing either way.

I also love the 800s... I'm thinking I might sell my 32 inch LCD (see if i can get $700 for it) and upgrade to the 42 inch 800 as well

I have an LCD 52" that I bought in late 2007 as for my next tv it won't be for many years and by then I hope OLED screens will have achieved maturity.

samsung LN46A650 46" or LN52A650 52" 1080p, 120Hz, 50,000:1, contrast, 4ms response, 4 HDMI. I had a 47" 1080p westinghouse (one of the first 1080p LCD's out). it's like night and day. like going from standard to HD all over again. plus dont you have to replace the bulbs every 2-3 years.

What you talking about? There are tons of sites online selling the EXACT SAME TV that you get from BB or CC for hundreds or even thousands less, yes, with box and everything sealed.

It is sooooo stereotype/dated that people still think if a product is less than MSRP, it is a knockoff..

To OP, I'd use pricegrabber.com to get a feel what is the going market rate for the TV you're buying, and there are many credible online sites for TV, such as amazon.com, onecall.com, abesofmaine.com, newegg, etc etc.

I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma thats 720p and I have to say I love it. That said, the 46" Sony XBR4 is breathtaking. If your budget can take it I highly recommend it.

[QUOTE=jborlace;1008217]I am getting ready to replace my old 52" projection tv. I was looking at a 52" Mitsubishi DLP.

Thats the tv i will one day buy. From my side if you are not sold on needing a flat tv go dlp. You can purchase a bigger screen size for the same money as a smaller flat screen. I was a tv repair guy and saw many different tvs. I was always amazed with the picture quality of the mitsubishi DLPs.

On a side note you may want to research DLP LED. They use an LED blub and are supposed to last longer. I believe its samsung that makes it but i could be wrong.

MAKE sure you get the extended warranty.

Have no fear with DLP. Its the ford and chevy arguement. Some people swear by ford some by chevy. They all do the same thing.
Some say only plasma, lcd. Dlp looks just as good as them for less money
