Problem with my PS3??? - Blu-ray Forum

I have the 40 gb ps3 and have had it since about November. I have never had a problem with it before until last night. I was watching a movie when I started hearing a loud noise and did not know where it was coming from, I finally noticed it was coming from the PS3 and got pissed. It sounds like the noise when you self clean your PS3 and the fan kicks into like hyper drive. I turned it off for a while and then turned it back on and about after 30 minutes it started again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or what it may be??? Thanks to everyone in advance

I have the same problem, but I have my ps3 in a small cabinet without air getting out the back, so I pulled the ps3 out further and it stopped, and yes, my fan sounded like it was in hyper drive also, but not no more, hopefully this is what your problem is.

I get a similar issue with my BDP-s301.

Mine sounds like a berring is slipping or something...sometimes for a while and sometimes never.

But back to the ps3, mine was really loud until I isolated it on its own shelf on the bottom of my rack. Plenty of air and away from heat.
I also have mine on top of an old VCR that now acts as a heatsink.

check to see if any portholes got clocked with dust, animal hair, so fourth... PS3 needs to breathe, if it can't breathe it will try harder. One of my laptops has this problem where the fans will kick on in high if the processor gets too hot, usually after letting it breather for a few minutes clears up the issue, look closely at it, my 40gb has no Overheating issues and actually runs quite cool.

i had the same problem with my 40gig ps3. even though i had it sitting on a shelf by itself with plenty of room to breathe, the fan would start going off extremely loud after 10 minutes into the game. so i finally sent it back to them this week in exchange for a new one. thank goodness for the warranty.
