See if the titles are ones that on DVD in the US have 5.1 or not... Kinda grumpy if that's the 'difference', but it's a shot. |

To be honest, none of the titles at the store really interest me at their price points [some of the Aqua Teen might have tempted me for the PSP copies, but at their current price point, I don't much like it]. |

[QUOTE=hardcore_canadian;1026787]The writing to consumerist thing seemed a bit drastic to me.QUOTE]
the fact that they outright refuse any and all refunds for psn is pretty ****ed up, i could easily just do a chargeback on the card i use for psn, its more a matter of the misleading, trust me, ive done customer service, and i know what youre referring to, but this isnt just some customer bs. when i worked at t-mobile for a year, i got alot of "theres no way i went over my minutes, give me credit" crap, this isnt near the case, the fact is i paid for something and didnt get what was expected. as for the other person talking about 5.1 dvds, i know for a fact that the movie i got is 5.1 on dvd, see my previous posts, even linked it. |

"expected"
Sorry but that's on you. Nowhere does it say 5.1 audio and 'HD' simply does not mean audio in this case. If you got 'burned' you only have yourself to blame. I do agree 100% that they should provide specific audio info. And thanks for reporting on the service. |

Since you brought up T-Mobile though, have you ever had to explain to a customer that you can't refund their 411 charges because they didn't get a number? [ Edit : appendum ] Sucks, but oh well. I suspect then more than anything it has to do with right agreements. But I'm in no way qualified to say. Last edited by reiella; 07-17-2008 at 11:31 PM. Not all services are the same. You worked for tmobile, up in Canada we only have one Network that charges billing by the second, but lots of people do assume that others do the same, especially the affiliated ones... it's a bit annoying. But I understand now, but you know there are certain things that you really would have done for the customers, but your bosses just don't let you?... Maybe it's something like that?

Really, Sony [specifically PSN] is one of the companies that sticks pretty hard to the letter of their policy [from my own experience]. |

For all you hating on the OP, you people are just ignorant.
When you buy an HD movie, you should be getting 5.1 audio or higher, doesn't matter if its PCM or DD or DTS-HD, it should be 5.1, that's what High Def is all about, not just the picture, but the whole experience itself. Even some SD movies on DVD have 5.1 I believe? so HD should have no excuse but to have 5.1 audio. Having 720P HD content with 2.0 audio is like buying a PS3, and strictly playing PS2 games on it. OP, i'm with you on this one, I was on the fence of using the video service for HD, but after this, i'll pass Last edited by ADRiiAN`; 07-18-2008 at 03:54 AM. |

Sorry, but Adriian and krztov are wrong.
It's nothing to do with opinion, I'm not slating what you are upset about, it's to do with sales law. You can't argue that you didn't get what you "expected", that isn't enough of a case to get your money back. If the law allowed that people would be claiming money back all the time for all sorts of things. Yes, some companies will offer a gesture of good will, but that's entirely down to them. Buyer Beware is the rule to follow. Like it or not you paid for a download and that's all the transaction covers. Not the image quality, not the sound quality. You paid for a movie and you got it. It's not Sony's fault if it didn't meet your expectations. I might had downloaded the same movie and been happy with it. Sorry, but Sony are in the right here, they supplied you with what you paid for. Now, should they be upfront about picture and sound information? Probably, so suggest that to them for the future. My own view is that I would have low expectations of any movie download service. It only goes to prove that disc based media is the best. Sorry krztov, I'm not saying you are wrong to be unhappy but from a legal point of view Sony are within their rights to not refund you. Last edited by partridge; 07-18-2008 at 07:25 AM. |

Fwiw, the term "HD" has zippo, zilch, nadda to do with audio standards. It's purely a reference to 720p/1080i/1080p in the video. Even then, it is a nearly meaningless distinction given the whole quality of image vs. compression thing.
I doubt you will find every single program broadcast in ota or cable as "HD", sporting full 5.1 audio. Certainly, there will be some and some not. Point is, the audio is utterly up to the discretion of whoever is making the content. There is no direct link to the term "HD", even though we may have become accustomed to certain kinds of audio that come on a movie disc. Another thing- how far standards have fallen when we consider the number of channels of audio as a measure of being high definition audio. [smacks forehead] It could have 100 channels of surround, for all I care, but if it is poor quality audio, IT WILL NEVER BE CONSIDERED HIGH-DEFINITION AUDIO. High-def audio starts with 2 channels with decent stereo imaging, over the full audio range, and at least CD caliber dynamic range. Once you can guarantee that, THEN you extend it out to however many surround channels you like (with comparable specs). Short of that, 5 channels of questionable audio quality is still short of TRUE high definition audio. Did anybody bother to check if 2-channel aac @ 256 kbs sounds good or not? Of course not...why bother if it isn't multichannel, right? ![]() Now I know surround is here to stay, and has become a quintessential component of any relevant movie for the past decade or so, but let's not confuse that with what "hi-def audio" truly is. Demand surround sound because it is a "cinematic standard", not because it has anything to do with hi-def audio or "HD". ...and finally (as I step down from my soapbox), how badly can you miss $5.99 to complain to whoever to refund your CC?! You live and you learn. It's time to move on. Consider it a $5.99 lesson that "HD movies" and surround sound are 2 entirely separate things. Certainly, you should submit a complaint to clearly distinguish the audio track in the psn store or more universal support of surround soundtracks in the video library, where available. That's about it. Last edited by Mr. Hanky; 07-18-2008 at 08:06 AM. |

the anime that is up there has 5.1
it's even shown on PS3Fanboy.com. go to ps3fanboy.com and go to page four of the site and they have a review/walkthrough of the service and there is a picture where it clearly shows 5.1 audio on the HD anime series. I do agree it should list if it is or is not 5.1 though. but, for the record, 5.1 is offered. |
