Yup. Screw'em and their high horse they think they're riding in on. If Universal doesn't go blu by the end of the year, they'll go down with their hd-dvd ship.

I voted that I will not buy any universal movies if they remain hddvd-exclusive. There are some older titles that I would love to see on blu ray, but before I could get excited about the idea of universal going format-neutral, I would want to be confident that they would release a quality blu ray product and not something that's reduced to the lowest common denominater of hddvd.

So far I do not own any HD-DVD products but my patience as a movie collector only last so long.
I know how you feel. I bought an Xbox 360 Elite for gaming purposes (my second 360, for LAN parties) with the intention of not buying the HD-DVD add-on because I support blu-ray, but then I found out about Heroes being HD-DVD exclusive and I found the add-on player for $180 and I couldn't resist. I feel kind of bad for helping to prolong the war, but I'm actually glad I did because now no HD movie is out of my grasp.

it's awfully tempting...but I feel like I am helping to slow things down this way...

plus it also encourages multi-formats in the future....

I'm not going to tell you what you did was wrong...because I've come close to folding...especially when I saw the 1st gen Toshiba player floor model on closeout for 99.93 at sears.....

but I will be patient....awfully patient..

We should organize some kind of mass e-mailing to Universal with a link to this thread. Maybe that poll would help fuel a little blue fire under their butts.

Doubt I'll ever get an HD-DVD player just so I can watch Universal. I have two theater setups and too many other TV's in the house to be buying two sets of equipment.

For anyone who already owns a HD-DUD player or choose anything other than "If Universal Studios remains exclusive to HD-DVD I would never purchase their movies" then you are part of the reason why Universal remains exclusive. Vote with your wallets people!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You left of a potential answer... which while it is difficult to achieve now may well become almost trivial...

I will borrow the HD DVD, rip the content and burn it to a BD-R.

Sounds good to me but I'd think the poll would need to have an extremely large number of participants for universal to ever notice.

I'm still for idea of proposing universal-exclusive buy day if they go neutral along with the said e-mails, but, again, the number of people would need to be huge. And who's to say if they would just release cheapened hddvd ports if they did go neutral?

But whatever gets them seeing BLU, I'm all for....let's make sure it's big

I doubt threads like this will have any effect on Universal's decision. The only logical explanation for their ill conceived position is that someone in the executive structure must be taking an under the table pay-off from Toshiba or Microsoft.

I recently watched Back to the Future and it looked really well in PQ. This is playing on the PS3 upscaled. It looks really good, so I will be good if they go HD-DVD only.

Universal will turn hopefully next year. We have the power, and it just has to keep going harder and harder at them. They will make the right decision.

I dont think people realize that this has been done, and the TrueHD Tracks are used as PCM audio on the blu-ray versions. You can have the entire universal lineup on blu-ray discs right now, today, if you wanted to go through the effort.

I owned a Toshiba A1 before I owned the PS3. I purchased quite alot of discs(75) on HD DVD before switching over to blu-ray. When I switched over to blu-ray, I made my mind that I would not support HD DVD anymore. Since making up my mind, I have purchased just one title on HD DVD and that was the Matrix. If I look at their release schedule, there is nothing else I see that I want from HD DVD, Universal titles or any others.
