I could honestly care less if Alvin was beside 2001 or Casablanca. I have small children so it's a non issue for me. But if you're single and I saw Alvin & the Chipmunks sitting in your library of Blu's beside 2001 or Casablanca ...not cool man...not cool

I care even if no one who ever sees my shelf does.

these are my movies, these are not. that seems a fair reason for someone to separate a collection.

I personally don't want to own, let's say, alvin in the chipmunks. I'd still buy it for my kid but I wouldn't consider it part of my collection. because I care about quality, not quantity.

I'm not hyper anal about it and it doesn't seem weird to me that some people don't care, or don't get it, but I do. I do it for me, not for the people who might see my collection.

edit - I sould state I don't actually have a kid, but I deal with the same stuff regarding my collection and my fathers. mine is much much larger and in my room where as his is near our tv. it's worth it to me to have to run upstairs to get what i want to watch just to keep the stuff divided and claimed as my own.

I hate when people blame their daughters for movies that YOU actually enjoy enough to have on blu

I've got a copy of Dragon Wars next to my copy of Gattaca. As much as I agree with you I may have to wind up doing something about that.

I'd rather have no wife or kids than risk them messing with my blurays and other high tech stuff ...
hey wait a second, I do indeed have no wife or kids ... my stuff is safe

I do not complain about stickers and have no issue with different size cases. People who collect quality movies simply treat it like a hobby, much like trading cards; if you collect the star baseball players you don't display them with the benchwarmers. I don't see anything wrong with appreciating quality films and not wanting to mix it with films that have no artistic merit.

I don't mind the movies I buy for my son intermingling with the rest of my collection. It makes him feel more included in my life, and less like I am telling him that what he likes isn't good enough to be with Daddy's stuff.

It would be interesting/curious if we ever see a post like this from a woman on this forum.

Personally, I think my wife is cool, and she's turned me on to some cool films, so it's one big happy collection.

Actually you got attacked for telling people who don't hide their disc like you do showoffs.

But that's water under the bridge

My Blu-ray set-up is in my home studio, so family DVDs and my personal collection don't mix. And I do like it that way

I seriously hope youre joking. If your not, youve already made the "not cool" list in my book. If people make fun of your Alvin next to your 2001 you should knee them in the groin and then proceed to beat them repeatedly with a fire poker, even if Alvin sucks. Theres no one more lame than a guy who mocks a movie collection and he deserves every last swing of the fire poker.

Oh, i see you actually said quantity. Well i've got nothing good to say about that mentality of collecting movies.
Sorry, but I don't really want to own either The Chipmunks or 2001, but if I liked both movies I wouldn't have a problem with those movies sitting next to each other.

You just sound like some arrogant snob or some immature or insecure person who probably knows the size of his penis to the nearest 16th of an inch. I mean, if you have people coming over to your house who are going to think poorly of you because of the movies you own, you probably need to find better friends. I'm assuming you probably have several different collections of CDs so the "good" music won't be defiled by the "bad" music you still like to listen to. Seems pretty pathetic to me.

Sorry if this sounds like a personal attack, but to me it just seems pretty silly and immature to me. I can understand not prominently displaying your adult video collection since it may not be appropriate for house guests to see or keeping a separate shelf for the kid-friendly movies but other than that it smacks of immaturity, insecurity and/or arrogance.
