Default LCD To Plasma

Well after 7 weeks 1 new panel and 4 new mainboards best buy nor samsung can fix my 4066f....i am done with LCD and especially done with samsung. I am going to switch to the other side....Plasma

What differences can i expect to see in the PQ from LCD to Plasma. This is the set i am going to replace my sammy with...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202650462469

does anyone have this set? is this a good plasma to get? i play a ton of video games, but from what i understand burn in is a thing of the past right?

anyways any help would be great! also if you think there are better tv's out there in the price range of the above set please let me know!

Rock On ~

good decision. I bought a 40 inch Samsung LCD (SAM LN40a550) and was not impressed at all. Doing some research and finding out all the misconceptions out about plasmas i found out (A. Life expectance is like over 15 years B. New Panny Plasma has anti reflective screen to reduce glare C. Burn in problems are no longer a issue with the new pixel shifer.) I mostly watch movies and the colors are so natural and great black levels. I am so glad i bought a panasonic plasma.

well i am glad i picked out a great set! I am ishing i never touched the sammy! well don;t get me wrong the pq on the 4066f is fantastic (when it works) but the customer service is quite possibly the worst i have ever encountered!

Ok so on to plasma...so big increase in pq over lcd...what about motion blur? i know most lcd's still suffer with this. I have never even really looked at plasma's before so really know very little about them.

now correct me if i am wrong, The Panasonic plasma you are looking at has a 60hz panel refresh rate and a 480hz sub division. The new lcd's have 120hz to eliminate the motion blur. Also Plasma has a shorter duty cycle than LCD as well as a shorter display time than even 120Hz LCD so although it has a 60hz panel refresh rate.. The plasma still has a better refresh rate then a LCD with 120hz...like i said correct me if I am wrong because i am not 100% sure

hope this helps

your correct! the panny i am looking at does have 60hz refresh rate. I had heard that the 60hz plasmas perform better than 120hz lcd but i was not sure if that was the case or not. After being such a strong believer in the lcd tech for a long time, i kind of took everything i heard about plasma's with a grain of salt (how stupid of me)

now another panny plasma i have been looking at, which is a bit more expensive than the one i listed, supports 24p. How big of a difference will a plasma that suppoorts 24p make over one that does not?

If you are buying now, then I would think that support for 24p (or 120h) is a must, is it not? This way you can play the source material as intended and not with the 2:3 pulldown.

LCD's may refresh at 120hz but the image on the screen still needs time to change due to its response time. That is why you don't see response time listed for plasma because it virtually doesn't have one. Plasma basically is using light made from gas to display light where the LCD is obviously "liquid" and can't change state as fast as a gas(energy state that is)

The image quality won't be effected much by not having 24p but movie viewing may not be as ideal without it. It might be hard to find a big difference though if you notice it at all.

All I know is that even though I love my sony XBR4 LCD while watching Blus and Gaming. when I'm watching High Def Satellite programming, mostly sitcoms, dramas on channels like FOX or NBC I def still get a 'judder' or 'laggy' picture from time to time.

My dad just got a sammy Plasma and I have never seen any judder of any kind while watching any kind of programming. It's PQ is gorgeous. So Plasma will be my next purchase unless LCD can completely eliminate judder of any kind.

No it's definitely not a must. If you've been watching DVD's for years and haven't been bothered by 3:2 judder then chances are you won't be bothered with it by Blu-ray either.

Plasma at 60Hz is infinitely quicker than LCD at 120Hz when it comes to response time and that's also why the motion resolution is significantly better, resolving 900/1080 lines of motion where most LCD's, including the 120Hz models, can only resolve 600 lines at best.

I had recently exchanged a samcrap dlp for a Panny plasma. I like this tv, only does 720p but looks good to me. It has a 1080p board in it and accepts 1080p signals, so Im not really sure if it down resolutions it to 1080i or 720p. anyhow Im happy with the picture and sammys take on the dlp 76 series is f....cked. Bowed image for starters. and yeah, there support really blows, I might as well ask my dog!

Too bad it took a bad experience to convert you, but the important thing is you will now be viewing HD content over the best possible display type at this time (not counting some high-end front projection systems). I've got 3 Panny plasmas, and have been very happy with each and every one since I got the first one 5 years ago. You won't be dissappointed.

wow. some of you guys have some crappy luck. i've got the LN-T4081, and I haven't had a single problem since I bought it in Nov 07. but, even with no real negatives, if I could do it again, I'd get the Pioneer Elite, or the Kuro 50". I found out after I spen 2500, that if I woulda spent about 5-6 thousand, my wife wouldn't have been upset cause this is an investment. man, i'm an idiot.

I have a Samsung LCD and I never had problems with it. I think LCD's have more advantages than plasma's, but that's just my opinion.

That's my tv!

I love this TV... everything looks great. It just... it's just good.
I play tons of video games, I have never had burn in trouble, and even if I did the TV has a wipe setting to get rid of it.

The only things I have to say negative about this TV, which really is with anything plasma, is that it runs hot (even after calibration). When it was in an enclosed room... it probably made the room 10 degrees hotter after a good gaming session.

Anyway. Great choice, I looked at a lot of other things and this was my "holy grail" tv. One of the best choices I have ever made.

Enjoy it!

Ha ha ha...

Why does that sound familiar? Let's see... marathon game session on my PS3, in an enclosed room, on a plasma (panasonic TH-42PZ85) display, with audio output on a 5.1 receiver, on a 30 degree (celsius, so... what 90ish Farenheit?) day. My friend came over and stepping into the room from the hallway was like "stepping into a sauna" according to him.

LCD is the way to go unless you want to watch and play games in a DARK ROOM. Also plasma waste more energy than LCD.
