If he's watching it on TurboHD then it's as good as Blu-ray

yeah but not every BD transfer is good, wish the uk had channels like this, we have few hd movie channels but i dont rate them, we are so behind on HD TV

Actually, Ghostbusters II was what was playing on HD Net Movies. Not such a great sequel.

Video quality is usually pretty decent on HD Net Movies. It certainly isn't Blu-ray quality at all. But it beats watching stuff in standard definition by a healthy margin.

BTW, the 1080p stuff on Dish Network's "TurboHD" is Video On Demand content. You rent the movie. It loads up on the hard drive of a ViP series receiver and plays back in 1080p format. Again, it's not at Blu-ray bit rates. But it does look better than the usual compressed on the fly stuff you see on many of the HD channels.

For what it costs to rent a PPV movie in HD, I'd rather drive a mile to Hollywood Video or Hastings, pay the same amount of money or $1 less and be able to keep the Blu-ray Disc for 5 or 7 days. When you rent a movie via PPV it vanishes from your hard disc after 24 hours. That pretty much sucks. You get no special features either. Even more suckage.
