Problems with Patroit Games and Clear & Present Danger

Just finished watching the Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger Blu-ray's, and both movies have some strange vertical lines in the picture. It’s quite visible (worst in Patriot Games) and most annoying.

Anyone else noticed this? The Hunt for Red October disc is flawless…

I noticed this in Clear and Present Danger on my BD50. I had only had the player for a few days at the time so it made me worry that the BD50 was the problem. Its definately the disc though.

I had a similar problem with another disc (can't remember which it was). I switched my BD-Player (Samsung 1400) output from 1080p to 720p (I only have an HD-ready display) and the problem was solved, the picture was perfect and the lines were gone... maybe this helps?!

Didn't help to turn my PS3 to 720p...

You'll see the lines VERY clearly at the Paramount logo at the very beginning of the movie.

Saw it on mine as well, it's only noted in the review on High Def Digest. Think it's a video related issue, the disc isn't causing it

I have seen other bizarre things on Patriot Game. During the Trial screne, i can see a subtle halo that come and goes when the picture is dark. Anyone else experience this ?.

My bd player is a Panny BD50 plug to a PTAE-2000.

I have different issues with this disc on a Panasonic DMP-BD85K. Can't go directly to any scene from pop-up menu, player just freezes then disc restarts on its own. Resetting player doesn't help. Skipping and forwarding make the player freeze, too. Gonna go check the other Jack Ryan blu-rays.

A few years back I experienced this on several Paramount discs, the ones mentioned and on Tomb Raider. At the time I only had a 720p TV and when I switched my PS3 output to match, the problem went away. I always thought it was a scaling problem with my TV. But always with Paramount discs for some reason.

Which reminds me, the problem was there with the equivalent HD-DVD of Tomb Raider on my system as well. Hmm....

I'll have to check again with my 1080p projector.

Best Buy has several Paramount titles at $9.99 and Clear and Present Danger is one of them. It's my favorite of the series, but I will probably pass. I'm hoping we get a new box set when "Jack Ryan" hits theaters in December. These films are in dire need of remastering.

Same here. Now that I'm all 1080p'd up (have been for a few years) I'll have to revisit a few of these movies. I seem to remember that Fox's Broken Arrow had the same artefact, it seems to be a scaling problem inherent to certain older transfers.

Hi All, My UK Clear and Present Danger Blu-ray is having playback problems after 1:15:31 could you please check if your have the same problem ? I read there is some problems with other people. My BR was working. Now it stops playing. There is a layer switch problem.
