Unhappy Overlord: Raising my blood pressure

Anyone disappointed by the quality of this game?

Don't get me wrong, the game is very clever and fun to play, but there are some really annoying things about it. First, the framerate, when your minions are loaded up and you get into a battle it's like watching a slideshow. As if that's not bad enough, I'm nearing the end of the game, and it keeps locking up on me in the dungeon while I'm trying to polish off the battles (Three times last night, there is no excuse for that). Another thing that has been bothering me (and many others, judging by some other reviews and forums) is the lack of a map and a helpful way to know what you're supposed to be doing at any given time. I have found myself angrily wandering around unsure of what to do until I just happen to run into it many times. [ugh]

I'm hugely upset with Codemasters over this game, It is the worst performing console game I have ever played. I was tempted to get "Grid" and the upcoming "Rise of the Argonauts", but I don't feel they deserve my money. I stick to consoles because it's a level playing ground, the developers know EXACTLY what the system specs are so they can design the game to work flawlessly with that particular system. Codemasters has really dropped the ball on this one. I'll give them credit for including all the stuff the 360 owners had to purchase, but I still expect the game to operate well.

Overall the game is really amusing, but CodeMasters really needs to beef up their quality control if they want me to come back as a customer.

Anyone else here have issues with this or their other games?

I downloaded the demo but never tried it. I like the premise, but if the gameplay blows premise don't matter.

I actually had a very good time with Overlord: Raising Hell.

Sure, it did freeze on me a couple of times, but progress gets saved quite often so it's never that big of a problem. I didn't have too many issues with framerates, either, even when I got up to 50 minions.

And the gameplay is pretty good, more than outweighing the small bugs and glitches that are present.

If you are having major framerate issues, check the surface of your disk. I've had a couple games that got really choppy, and removing some big smudges/fingerprints on the disk cleared it right up. I don't have overlord, but this worked for several of my games.

I will be getting this when it lowers in price. I really enjoyed the demo.

I'll have to check that, but I'm pretty good with my disks.

Is this game like Civ: Rev in that you decide the strategy and then the units do battle or do you have to play the battles as well?

I didn't play it on the PS3 but I enjoyed it on the 360 and I can't really think of any problems I had.

Not like CivRev in any way. You control the overlord and the minions at the same time. Sounds crazy, but the controls are well designed.

Eventually I'll try the demo. Thanks for the response.

I'm really careful too, but upon examining some disks after noticing framerate lag I noticed some scuffs (which wiped right out).

It must be that the framerate drop comes from some difficulty accessing the textures on the disk reliably.

Hmm, Are you refering to the Abyss levels or the 'normal' levels when you're having trouble figuring out what to do?

I like the idea of this game and I did play the demo, but I'm not gonna pay $60. Hopefully, the price comes down a bit.

It should when Overlord 2 gets closer to release.

Okay I have to admit im angry at it for simply stealing my idea.

I was in the process of creating a mod for neverwinter nights called RISE OF THE OVERLORD.. me and a friend were working on it, when he saw Overlord Rising hell he decided our idea was no longer unique since someone else has created a game on the premise I do not think so but the project was cancelled.

I feel its too kid friendly to be honest, you do not feel evil at all, even when doing something evil.

It is fun though just not evil enough...

I checked my disk and it was perfect except for a small partial fingerprint on the very outer edge. And the game froze again after I cleaned it.....

It seems to freeze in the dungeon when I have 30+ minions and things start to get crazy! At least you're not losing too much when this happens, there are certainly worse places it could freeze up, thats for sure! To add to the freezing, the game now occasionally loads with wild spiky, texture-like planes shooting all over the place! I don't know what the issue is, but it's obnoxious!~ ~

I can't help but wander if all this freezing and hard switching off (6 times now) and on is taking a toll on my PS3/hard drive....

It is a really fun, amusing, unique game! But I still don't think I'll support Codemasters after this one. This is the most problematic game I couldn't stop playing.

Anyone play(ed) this online? How's that?
