Default Ps3 problems???Or is it just the 360

Hi i was just on another forum and they were talking about ps3 updates to make it better or fix problems. But im wondering does microsoft do anything like sony? where you get some updates to solve software problems. I mean a few months after the 360 came out we started hearing about the the ring of death. or could it be that sony is keeping it quiet on problems they might already have or think they will have and thats the reason for so many updates...Any suggestion?

I really haven't heard much about Sony's PS3 consoles being defective. I own one and it's still running like new since I bought it.

However, I have heard at least a hundred stories about defective Xbox 360 consoles. I can't say I'm surprised. My original Xbox is even giving me problems from time to time even though I took care of it like a queen. I'm sure people know what I'm talking about... the infamous dirty disc error.

Though it ran just fine for at least 3 years till that disc error occasionally show up. It still work but it does happen from time to time. I haven't played it in a long time.

Microsoft has done some updates but not many to improve issues with the system. At least not that they are saying. Most of their updates are to improve the operations of Live or the Marketplace. There was also the rumor of one update that actually bricked systems. Also, each game on the 360 has the ability to update if there is a problem with it, or when new content is available.

The PS3 has done a bunch of updates. More so when the system launched. It almost seemed like one a week, including one out of the box on launch day. The only game on PS3 that I have played that has updated itself is Resistance. But the PS3 also has the ability to update each game if needs be on a game by game basis.

I dont think either system has really addressed any major problems through updates. I am on my third 360 and I got a launch system. My first two both died from the 3 red light problem. Luckly I got the extended warrenty from MS so I have not had to pay for the repairs, I just have to deal with getting referbs. I have had hardly any problems with my PS3. When I first got it I had two freezes durring Blu-Ray playback. Nothing since then. While the updates seems to make the system run hotter now, thus making the fans run faster and louder, I have yet to have any real issue with it.

Might want to read these articles..don't expect them to fix the problems based on this lead guys response..problem? what problem? can I go back to sticking my head in the sand now.

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/200..._failures.html

and now they are running out of return shipping boxes...

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/an...fins/#comments

make sure you read the comments..someone in there talks about how a few VERY vocal people on the xbox forums shout down people that are wondering what the hell is going on with the reliability..

Some people have resorted to buying a back up Core system so when it dies (which is obviously their expectation) they won't be without a system for weeks at a time..sad. So much for the PS3 being expensive.

PS3 is looking like the most reliable console ever built at this point.

That's because they'd modded their systems, so the update didn't patch right (could have been deliberate).

The red rings of death are caused by insufficient bracing and cooling on the GPU breaking solder contacts. The new 360s being produced (and all ones that are being sent back) have a huge new heatsink and heatpipe added to them which apparently solves the problem

I bought the Xbox back in the ps2/xbox wars. I never had any problems until about six months ago. My xbox just died! Won't read any game discs anymore. Some DVD's and all CD's are okay.
The PS2 seemed like it had alot of problems at launch. I remember a couple of my friends having to send theirs in for repairs.

Now it's flipped around. The 360 is having all sorts of problems, and the PS3 is just dandy! I have had zero problems with my PS3...no freezing, glitches, hang-ups............nada!

Occasionally I leave a BD or DVD running all night & then watch something or play constantly through the next day...I get a freeze issue by that evening, but a quick restart and it's like nothing ever happened. Other than that, it's been perfect since I got it in Jan, 06. Although I think that the 1.81 update makes upscaling a little fuzzier than the 1.8 update...or I've just gotten used to the upscaled image & now my brain is comparing it to actual BD images(which needles to say are still far better).
But, anyway.
PS3 is the only console I own(because it does so much so well), so I can't speak for any other systems.
