If it was humming I would say you had a grounding problem somewhere in your electronic chain. Is it through both/all speakers or is the hissing through one channel only?

If it is close to a power outlet, move it further away....And is that also plugged into a surge protector? Is the RCA line that goes from the receiver to the subwoofer running next to a bunch of other wires, especially power cords? If so try your best to separate them.

is what plugged into a surge protector. Also, i only have 4 power cords total, including the surge protector. The subwoofer cord only runs close to one, thers really no way around the placement of the wires

Make sure the subwoofer's powercord is plugged into a surge protector as well. It may minimize the humming

hissing coming from the speakers is pretty much a sign that your volume is up way too loud or you have improper gain stages throughout your audio chain.

something has to be turned up way too loud or has a boost on it giving one or two devices a higher gain stage.

my guess would be that the channel you have your ps3 set on in your receiver, has a volume level on either the entire source, or separate levels for each speaker, and they're just cranked.

for instance, my denon receiver you can adjust the input gain on each input as well as each individual speaker level input for the overall output. i dont have a ps3, so i cant say whether or not there are any level adjustments on that machine itself, but that could be it too.

bottom line, something is turned up way too loud is my guess.

right my receiver has the same option i think, there is an option to adjust the gain through an equalizer, i jus thave no clue how to use it. Also when im playing the ps3 the hiss is most noticable when playing at a volume of 0

is it possible that a power conditioner would help fix the problem

what receiver are you using?

as far as a power conditioner, it wont hurt your situation at all. i kind of doubt it will help the hissing aspect of your issue though. its kind of hard to judge just what kind of sound is coming from your speakers without actually hearing it. power conditioners generally solve your "humming" issues. but again, it can be a bit difficult to differentiate what sound you're hearing since everyone kind of has their own way of describing sounds and such.

whenever i hear hissing, or someone describing the sound as hissing, its almost always due to volume or gain staging issues.

its very possible your receiver just cant output the high level you're trying to reach. i dont know what kind of receiver you're using, but if i had my denon anywhere close to 0dB, I'd be running for the hills. 0dB on my receiver atleast is LOUD.

i am using a sony 3300es and its outputting at 4ohms. It outputs 100watts per ch at 8 ohms but the specs dont say the watts for 4. http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/So...fb1c7cb349.pdf here is the owners manual, info on the equalizer is on pg 74

hmm.

well, i'd check to make sure "night mode" isnt on. that can funk up some things since it lowers the overall output significantly depending on the receiver.

also, i'd check to see what your speaker size is set to in the gui. sometimes that can cause some weird things.

and lastly, i'd check to see what your individual speaker levels are set to. if you did any changing to the levels, id suggest just setting all levels back to default.

Is "0" the loudest that the reciever goes up too? Not +1 on upwards?
