I like the Matrix, but by release only for HD DVD format only I know I am not gonna get it unless they are willing to release them on Blu-ray. BTW, I was so happy when I read about the Blockbuster news yesterday.

If PaidGeek's Target rumor pans out, it could really set the dominos falling.

I can't find it here so it must have been on AVS. He said he heard a similar rumor about Target making an announcement that they were going BR exclusive.

of course, it only the beginning, most of the people trust these informations about "blockbuster goes blu" on the radio , tv , internet ect. for many of them its SURE now, blu-Ray will be the future HD format.

Fact is, it istn sure, but for many people it is, thx to this announcement.

It's funny reading AVM$ right now. It sounds like the intelligent ones have finally accepted the inevitable and the others are now clinging to the hope that they will stop making dvds and only release combo discs. Others want Toshiba to do all they can to get the Chinese to release their cheap players. Talk about a house of cards

combo discs! in what 720p with dvd sound. capacity is only 15GB since other layer is dvd. this was toshiba's original plan that also was based on red lasers. i believe that what XBOXLive downloads are.

Give it a few days to settle in and let's see how the sales numbers are then. I don't see how this could have a huge impact in a single day of sales. Seeing as how this was officially anounced yesterday.

PS... Blu-ray rules!!

Look folks, the HD-DVD proponents are not going to take this lying down. I've seen some of them comment that the format name itself should be changed from HD-DVD to minimize the confusion of J6P.

I modestly suggest the name EDSEL for the new name for their format. It's distinctive & probably not copy protected now.

Sometime over the last few days I read someone's description of the combo disc layout and as I remember, there were 3 layers and 3 ways a disc could be pressed. I think one configuration was a 30G HD DVD side but the dvd side was then limited to 4G. I don't know how accurate this was but it sounds like they would have some flexibility in using combos.

The real issue with suddenly going all combo is that replicators would have to upgrade all their lines. The disc costs would either have to go up for consumers or profits would have to go down ( possibly become a loss ) for studios.

On top of that, you have the reliability issues. With so many defective discs being released, you open up that liability to everything you're releasing if you go combo only.

Those are just a few of the problems I can think of offhand. To think that's any sort of "Ace in the Hole" is just a fools hope at this point.
