What this will also mean, is that the Bluray sales numbers will also begin to pull even more away from HD-DVD's numbers as 1700 Blockbusters will be stocking their shelves with several copies of a large amount of Bluray movies...

You figure maybe 100 bluray movies per store by years end, at about 3 copies of each movie, that's like over 500 thousand movies shipped out of the Blu crew.

I doubt they'll start with 3 copies per movie, but I thought I read that they were going to start with 170 movies.

It's so fun to see what I predicted about rentals to come true.

I said rental availability would drive the general consumer market, and it's proving true. Go blu.

Years ago in a galaxy far far away I owned a Betamax. I use to travel alot to find places that would rent them to me. I owned 4 or 5 of those machines and never had a problem. I eventually unloaded them and jumped on the VHS bandwagon just because I wanted to rent movies as well as own them. The same holds true today in the HD dept. If you can't rent an HD DVD then what good is the player other than owning the odd movie. Ripple effects are bound to happen. Only ones going to buy into Toshiba are the uninformed or haven't got a clue. If you do your homework, your buying a BD player. We win.

The problem is this summer is somewhat weak for Blu-ray releases. There are no new releases on July 10 (there are several releases for HD DVD). Black Snake Moan and Shooter and the other Paramount releases do not appear to include lossless audio tracks and so most of us won't be buying those titles (I cancelled my preorders and added them to my Netflix list). In general it looks like Paramount is still screwing us.

In the meantime Universal is releasing several excellent titles this summer including:

American Me
Being John Malkovich
Big Lebowski
Bulletproof
Dead Silence
Mallrats
Meet Joe Black
Watcher
Billy Madison
Dante's Peak
War
Wedding Date
Bourne Identity
Scent of a Woman
Streets of Fire
Darkman
Hot Fuzz
Sea of Love
Shaun of the Dead
Erin Brockovich
Meet the Fockers
Mercury Rising
What Dreams May Come
Dawn of the Dead
Heroes - Season 1
Notting Hill
Nutty Professor 2: Klumps and a few others

I only mention this because content is really key in the end and the Blu-ray releases look really weak the summer. I think the Blu-ray supporting studios need an answer for the summer drought.

Or is Universal shooting their load because they see the end too?

none of these movies are devastating blows to BD...as a whole, they'll help overall sales...out of that entire list, there are only a few movies I'd buy...

but alot of people like Heroes, Nutty Pro. and Bourne Identity I am assuming...so they'll make a stride or two while BD is warming up for round 2...HD DVD is landing random jabs to gain a few points...

round 2 will deliver the knockout blow...believe it..

I completely agree with prev post - that list doesn't impress me one bit from universal. HD DVD is already dead in my opinion. It never stood a chance. They probably should not have put What Dreams may Come in there. Anyone suicidal would kill themselves after watching that depressing mess. lol

I think I may a little misinformed about Paramount. I was just looking at High-Def Digest and they at least list The Untouchables as encoded with English DTS-HD High Resolution 6.1 Matrixed. Black Snake Moan and Shooter are listed as TBA on HD Digest and Dolby Digital 5.1 on this site. I hope in the end we'll hear quality lossless audio in all these titles.

Ladies and Gentleman we are nearing the end of days of this so called "war"!!!! With Blockbuster, two studios announcing exclusivity, and BD+...nails are being hammered in the coffin now. I can't wait until tomorrow (well, later on today ) for the big announcement.

It could be a small announcement and this would be a great week for Blu.

Blockbuster's Blu-ray Endorsement Having Major Impact on HD DVD Player Sales

The effect is 100x more powerful than the actual news.

I love how the fanatics try to tell toshiba how to run their company.

"STOP DVDS AND GO ALL COMBO"
"WE NEED A POSITIVE PRESS RELEASE ASAP!"
"TOSHIBA, LOWER PRICES EVEN FURTHER!"

etc etc.
