Default Recomendations for a small HDTV

Hey guys, I need some recommendations for a new TV.

The space in our hutch is 27.5" wide and about the same in height.

I am obviously looking for a widescreen HDTV. For that size, I think LCD is better, am I right? At that size, is 720p the only option, or is 1080p available?

We're willing to spend in the range of $500-$1,000.

how far away will you be sitting?

is 27" the largest you can go? (perhaps not use the hutch and go bigger?)

for the budget you have, I dont think you would need to spend that much on a 27" tv. And at the distance you sit, you may not notice a difference from 720p to 1080p...so you could save money with a 720p tv.

This TV may be a good option for you LINK

You could always stick it on the wall

26" 720p Samsung LN26A450

I just bought it and it's an awesome TV. And I don't know why but it displays 1080p when I use my PS3.

Our couch is about 7 feet away from our hutch. Is that too far to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p? Do they even make TVs that small with 1080p? LOL

It'd be a lot easier if the TV could stay in the hutch. Our current TV is a truly pathetic Toshiba 19" CRT with a built-in DVD drive (blah!). A 27" HD LCD (or Plasma) TV would be a BIG improvement.

with a fixed pixel resolution of 1366 x 768, your TV is merely accepting the 1080p signal and scaling it to ~720p.

if you can spend anywhere from $1000-$1500 i would personally buy a bigger tv and put it on a stand in front of the hutch because 27 is not a great size. you could get a 42 inch and a nice looking stand for that money and it'd be much better...but thats just me

What you really need is a new hutch. If your budget is really that limited then you will have to settle for a 26" 720p TV in your price range. Not bad as long as you sit no more than 8 to 10 feet away. I'm about that far from my 26" Vizio as my bedroom TV.

I have seen people who bought lcd or plasmas larger than their hutches, and then mount the LCD/plasma to the front of the hutch. Depemding n your hutch this may cover up some shelf area tot he right and left or may look funny. All depends on the hutch and tv. If the hutch has doors on it to the left and right for compartments then this probably wouldn't work.

Here's a pic of my hutch.

So a 26" 720p TV, huh? Sounds good. Which models are best?

Dynex® - 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV or Panasonic TH-42PZ80U

....or....

Studio RTA - Fierro TV Stand

~ $1,000 (the Panasonic is slighty more but on sale for an excellent price.)
