Hey guys, I've owned my Sony Bravia KDL-V32XBR2 for the past 2 years now, and I thought the quality of the picture was fine when it came to Blu-ray's until I got Transformers... Now hear me out, I know the reviews are all 5/5 and one of my friends owns it as well and says its flawless. But when I watch it on my setup all the blacks are, well, not BLACK. They've got a hint of blue in them, and very grainy. But when it comes to games, obviously the picture is flawless. I'm really hoping it's not my TV.
I was thinking, can the problem be my HDMI wire? When I bought my PlayStation back in Dec of '06 I also bought a Monster HDMI 300 wire for $99, yeah not cheap. My theory is that maybe my wire is out dated. Now I know I can just borrow my friends wire and check it out, but It'll take a few days 'til he comes over and we can try it. Can anybody here give me any suggestions please, I'd really appreciate it. ![]() |

Highly doubt its your HDMI since it'll either work or not work at all. Most likely your settings. Go to Tweaktv.com and see if you can find your TV there for best settings unless you want to pay to get it calibrated.

Firstly, wrong thread. This is hardware discussion.
Secondly, it's not the HDMI. So long as you can see video, it's working. HDMI is a cable that delivers digital signal; if the signal is lost, you get nothing. The problem is you have not calibrated your TV and set the PS3 accordingly. Look up PS3 settings discussion and use selected Disney's BDs (and get the glasses from their website) to calibrate. fuad |

Okay, so it's not a HDMI 'wire.' It's a 'cable.' It's composed of many strands and bundles of wires.
Don't ever buy another Monster HDMI cable, unless you just enjoy pissing away your money. Also, LCDs have never been accused of having the deepest blacks. But as was just mentioned...calibrate. |

1) Buy a cable from Monoprice (just to prove to yourself that it's not the cable) 2) Sell your overpriced Monster cable on eBay to some other sucker willing to pay for the name 3) Calibrate your set properly. You will never have "deep blacks" on an LCD, but you should be able to get them better than what you have. |

An HDMI cable either works or it doesn't. The digital signal either gets from one end to the other or it doesn't. There is absolutely no way for the wires in the cable to affect the payload encoded in the digital signal aside from failing to carry the signal properly.
You will get exactly the same image and sound quality from a functioning HDMI cable costing $4 as one costing $100. Pictures and sound are not enhanced in any way whatsoever by using an expensive cable. Monster cables are just a ripoff. |

As everyone already stated it's not your HDMI cable. For future reference you can buy an $8.00 HDMI cable that will perform just as well as your $99 Monster HDMI cable.
Also don't let anyone fool you into thinking that there isn't any grain in Transformers. There are some scenes in the movie where grain is present and it should be there regardless if your LCD is calibrated correctly or not. |

what they said, digital signals can degrade over distance, but you probably don't have a 50' run or anything like that...
But, what you need to do is sit down with your tv manual and go through the settings for contrast, brightness, etc. Play with the pre-programmed ones as well. It's also important to have a 2nd person there, I've always found it good to bounce thoughts off of them on how to get the picture to look good, and it's good for a second opinion. Spend some time with it, if it takes an hour or so, it'll be worth it in the long run. |

Wait until he sees 300! Then he will REALLY need to upgrade his HDMI cable.
