Talking HD DVD world wide sales...as of 24/06/2007

Universal Studios' Ken Graffeo, who also heads the HD DVD promotional groups in the US and Europe, believes that the key indicator will be sales of pure DVD players, not consoles."We're still in the introductory phase. There are 90m TV homes in the US. So far just 250,000 HD DVD players have been sold worldwide. We will have to wait until overall numbers reach at least half a million before being able to point to a winner." Prices must come down further, says Graffeo, for consumers to take a genuine interest. The cheapest player in the UK, made by Toshiba, costs £340, according to GfK, and the cheapest Blu-ray, made by Samsung, is around £400. US prices have already dropped to around £150 for HD DVD machines, but standard DVD players are common now at £40.

while:
The format war's weapon of mass destruction has come in the form of the games console, particularly Sony's Playstation 3. It was released in March after months of delay which contributed to the resignation of Sony Computer Entertainment chairman and CEO Ken Kutaragi, dubbed "father of the Playstation". But it contains a Blu-ray DVD player, and so far 5.5m models have been sold worldwide. The Trojan horse of Sony's high-definition campaign, consoles came with a free copy of Casino Royale to underline the fact that it is for more than just playing games.

It is quite impressive the amount of software that is sold in HD DUD versus the amount of players they've got out there.
I wish more PS3 Blu-Ray people would purchase more movies. They're probably saving money to replace their TV's in the first place. This HD experience is a money drainer in the first place

This reminds me of the America's cup race I saw today. The crew on one boat were so far ahead they had ear to ear smiles. Meanwhile, the commentators had to make it sound like it was still anyone's game so you would still watch.

We all know the truth about what is going down. They can say whatever but we can keep smiling.
