I really want to watch this but don't want to watch the crappy DVD. I wish Disney would release this already.

I try to avoid buying Disney Blu-rays in general. They cram so much forced junk before the movie that by the time it's all over you feel like you've just watched a block of Saturday morning programming, except they were all ads! No thanks.

Also, I'd much rather have Song of the South, the not so politically incorrect film that social justice ******s have wrongly villified for too long.

How isn't it? It's usually not a term of endearment.

If you accidentally hit the stop button midway through the film, do you want to go through that process all over again?

People kill me about all this crap. They would rather not have a movie than skip through a few ads. I prefer to have the movie than not at all. To each their own I guess.

I'm still waiting for several Disney releases, namely Freaky Friday (2003) and Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Most of their catalogue titles have HD transfers, so I don't know what the hold up is.

Work is progressing on the remake at a snail's pace, so Disney are probably holding off to release the film on BD to co-incide with the remake's cinematic release. I have the region B anamorphic transfer with 5.1 sound and it's a damn good looking dvd. No extra's, but it will do until the blu ray arrives any decade now.

Has anybody rented/purchased the HDX on Vudu and cares to elaborate on what it looks like? I saw it listed tonight in the 3 days for $3.99 section, so I rented it. I just dont have time to watch it tonight.

I watched it on Vudu. It was letterboxed and the PQ looked no different than the DVD release.

I've heard that the reason Disney has not released this on bluray and why plans for a Joseph Kosinski helmed remake got scrapped is because they are afraid of it and see it as a failure They feel that the original was far too cerebral for audiences and was too dark for children. This movie creeped me out as a kid and that's precisely why I still love it as an adult. The chances of Disney bringing this out of the vault anytime soon are very slim. They'd rather bury it than revitalize it because they don't need it now that they have Star Wars and Marvel.

They're re-making this one too?
Anyway, when this is finally released, I hope it gets royal treatment with top-notch picture and audio and I hope it's lorded with extras. But I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.

I don't know about currently, but initially the director of TRON LEGACY was going to direct the remake of THE BLACK HOLE. There's even a Black Hole easter egg in TRON LEGACY, there's a movie poster for the original film in Sam's bedroom.

As 2009 is the films 30th anniversary, I'm really disappointed that Disney hasn't announced anything yet
And now we're approaching the 40th anniversary, and still nothing.

Finally gave up waiting, bought the DVD. Watching it now for the first time in years. Fun movie, fantastic fx. Admittedly a bit "bat crap crazy" in places, but still a fun flick.

And that ending...

The remake ain't happening. It was in development, but my theory is that Disney got into the advanced stages of the Lucasfilm purchase and didn't want to create a potential conflict of interest with a certain other outer space franchise and quietly scuttled it. I'm pretty sure that Disney got the rights back from Anchor Bay now, but I doubt a Blu Ray release will happen anytime soon for the same reason. I purchased the Digital HD version from the PSN recently, it has the overture and looks okay if not stellar, so I guess I'll live with that version.

Okay Disney, you've had your fun and tease, now, bring this, restored and properly scanned, to blu-ray fast.
Please note, that us fans are not demanding an 4K UHD with 18.3 crazy Atmos, or something like that, just a decent, honest good transfer

Money burns a hole in my pocket for a right & proper hi-def transfer of The Black Cauldron on bluray.

Disney, what are you waiting for?
