Default Disney's "The Black Hole"

I don't think no one here has mentioned this one but this was Disney's First PG movie that came out in 1979. I remember this one as a kid and i loved it.

A True Disney classic and hopeflully they release it soon.

I watched this film for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. I also hope it comes out on Blu-ray...hopefully before or at the same time as Tron.

Personally I think it's a pretty lame film, though I appreciate the studio's efforts to extend their reach.

I'd still pick it up on BD for nostalgia's sake. And the gorgeous matte painting.

I already brought this up but am happy to +1 this thread.

I bought it on DVD late this past September and remains the only DVD I bought since buying blu-ray nearly 14 months ago.

It simply MUST come to blu-ray for the 30th anniversary next year. It is ideal blu-ray material. Outrageous sfx.

1979? try 1985.

the film is anything but lame. to me, it's disney's finest work they've ever done. it's disney doing what disney does best. experimenting and taking huge risks. changing the game of animation. and it pays off in huge dividends here.

It was 1979. I saw it the same day as Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The first Disney film to receive a PG rating was Walt's own Treasure Island. The film was submitted to the ratings board as a matter of routine for a re-release in the 70's and the MPAA gave it a PG (what with all the pirates getting slashed and shot in the face and all). The studio was horrified, and so they had to censor the film to get it back down to a G.

The original uncut version was released to DVD a few years back, and it carries the original rating...PG.

Did not know that. Of course, The Black Hole was still the first Disney film initially released with a PG rating.

Thumbs up The ending was artistic.

After watching it on DVD I was taken a little aback by the ending because I had forgotten most of the movie only having seen it once on tv. But took it with a grain of poetic license.

The ending could be seen as symbolic of the evil Creator becoming one with his creations. Near the beginning of the movie Ernest (* not master of his domain) Borgnine referred to the black hole as "Dante's Inferno". So, the movie did come full circle in seeing the man-cyborg becoming one of his own robot zombies and ruling over hell.

The mechanics behind how it happens isn't as important as the meaning behind it. The Black Hole is one of those accidental genial films like 2001: ASO and Blade Runner. Simply on a more kid-friendly level.

John Barry is the genius behind the eerie music of The Black Hole.

The soundtrack is available in the iTunes Store. I don't believe it has ever been released on CD.

Maximillian. I watched it again last night. It SO deserves the blu-treatment. All that computer color, and grid lines from the CGI blackhole web, plus the blackhole itself is incredible.

Funny, because I saw this movie in 1979. Look it up, that's when it was released.

IMDB : The Black Hole (1979) 30th Anniversary was in 2009.

This is one of my all time favorite movies, not just for it's obscurity and originality, but the soundtrack is top notch. I have it. Right up there with John Williams. I love the ending as well. I guess some people would rather have rehashed garbage like Micheal Bay crap? Not me. I love this movie.

Hopefully Disney will finally release this gem in full HD remastered and top quality.

The Black Hole is way overdue. The Brit DVD cover art was the best:
