Default dts core and dts master

does dts master audio just sound better because it has a much higher bit rate than normal dts ,is that how the high definition is made or is it a totally different thing from a normal dts track.

Yes and no. Here is my non-technical response. If I'm wrong folks, please correct me:

The higher bitrate IS important, since it allows more information to be carried. But also important is the fact that it's lossless to begin with. Typically the lossy codecs are missing the range and depth, because something must be sacrificed for room. As a result you're not getting as much as you would with the lossless codec.

so basically when you think about your answer youre basically saying dts master audio is just normal dts but with a higher bit rate because maximum bit rate is just the same as saying lossless

No. The higher bitrate IS important (it takes headroom to send the information) but it's more than just the bitrate. The lossy codecs are actually missing information vs. the lossless. Lossless (PCM, TrueHD, DTS-HD) basically gives you everything the source has. Lossy (DD and DTS) is missing some information- explosions don't have as much depth, some surround sounds may be dropped... basically things that you may not miss on a casual listen.

*edit* Really need someone with more knowledge on it than I have. I know there is more to it than what I've explained.

i suppose it is something totally different because if you took a dts track off a dvd and in some way banged it up to 24mbps the quality of the track would be better but you wouldnt be hearing anything new on it youd need an actual master track to hear new things.Ok time for experts to help me with my warped confusion lol

Think of it like a .zip file...you have a 100mb file that you are compressing to fit onto some type of storage device.

Dts legacy would be like compressing that file down to 25mb, when you unzip the file it now reads 75mb. In the process of compressing the file and decoding it you've lost 25mb.

DTS-HD MA would be like taking that same 100mb file and compressing it to 50mb, and then decoding it to it's original value of 100mb, losing nothing.

I think you are a bit confused. Please read A Guide to Home Theater Audio Codecs. Hopefully, it will answer most of your questions about lossy and lossless codecs.

That's actually right. In the compression, certain elements of sound are lost, and couldn't be heard outside the cinema until this day of new HD audio codecs. Mostly minor stuff, though, and I still need to upgrade my receiver so I can listen to the movies in lossless form, but you get it.

If you play a DTSMA disc through an amplifier that can't decode the 25Mbps signal, it will use the core which is 1.5Mbps. Similar situation for the DolbyDigital TrueHD system, except the core is 'only' 640kbps (although better/higher than old DD used to be on DVDs).

Take all your dts core discs and run them Analog PCM via your external output jacks if you have them. It breathes new life into the discs and the seperation will give it more pronounced imaging and depth. (not a ton more...but it is a little tighter sound.)

Hope this helps...it is simply another way to look at it.
You may like it...you may not...either way...it is something to look into.

See you around,
