Default Decided collecting BDs isn't for me.

I am in no way suggesting that collection movies is a waste for everyone, just for me.

I ahve been for the last year and a half been buying BDs and selling many on the forums. I have decided that purposly trying to grow a big BD collection is REALLY REALLY becoming pointless for me personally. I have purchased many BDs and I think only about 8-10 of them are movies that are movies I could really call purchase worthy.

As of right now I am deciding to be extremely tight about what I buy.

I've thought about it and I think videogaming is a far better place to put my cash as I can out dozens of hours or more into a game that cost $59.99 compared to only watching a $29.99 once or twice for a grand total of about 2-5 hours of entertainment.

Gonna be doing a lot more renting form now on when it comes to movies.

I also don’t understand why so many people would buy a movie in any format instead of renting. With hundreds collected, do you really spend that much time watching all of them, or do you end up going back to the same ones over and over?

I don't understand the point of renting. Why keep paying for the same movie over and over?

don't know about everyone else, but i can personally say that about 75% of my collection (standard) has been in any one of my players 10 or more times since i've boughten them.

my blu collection, i've already watched movies like iron man and the incredible hulk 3 times each and they've been out less than a month.

i've found out that if u have them, u at least have the option of watching it when u want and not having to make a special trip somewhere or wait for it to show up.

as far as gaming, i've got one game i log a lot of time on but that's it. i beat a game and very, very rarely look @ it again.

Did you collect movies on a previous format??? maybe collecting movies in general just isn't for you.

There are very few movies I have seen that I have the desire to watch repeatedly. I have some DVD movies sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Guess I’m just not into collecting, but if that’s your (“your” being anyone reading this) thing, that’s cool.

At least he didn't decide to go digital download.

I have bought a few blu-rays I would never have bought on DVD. They were bought for the quality, and well, lack of choice for movies I really wanted. So, I understand.

Now that I have a grip of myself, I am content to wait for the movies I really want. I have ONE shelf to keep my movies and space is going fast. Even as I pull off the blu "double dipped" DVD's and titles I no longer desire. But overall I feel I have a much better selection of movies.

You are either a collector or you are not. There is nothing wrong with collecting if it is "right" for you, and nothing wrong with renting either. I have been an avid collector since the early Eighties. I replaced my VHS collection with Laserdiscs, then replaced that collection with DVDs (though I retained some of them), and now I am starting to replace THAT collection with Blu-Rays. Is that a good use of money? Probably not, but it makes me happy.

It is worth pointing out in my defense that I watch my favorite movies many, many times. There are titles that I have watched multiple times in EACH format -- to say nothing of having seen them in the theatre!

To each his or her own . . .

Yeah, I'm picky about the movies I do buy, I buy for repeated viewings over time. I purchased Nightmare before Christmas and it's already been in the player 5 times last weekend. I more then get my money's worth from the purchase over time. It's not really about collecting, it's more value to me.

$30 is usually the going rate for blu-rays. even when they're on sale. at least that's how it is in brick and mortar stores. i know. people will now tell me to look for deals online and all that. that you can find much better deals online and there is no need to pay $30. i don't shop online though. it's more of a hassle for me to deal with online shopping. plus i can find extremely good deals in brick and mortar stores more so than i can online usually. besides online shopping seems so cold to me.

i much prefer shopping in a store. but i don't often pay $30 for a blu-ray. though i have on occasion. in fact i just paid $30 for journey to the center of the earth on blu-ray. i'm sure most will tell me that was stupid, but i was going to best buy to buy the cure's 4:13 dream anyway as it was on sale for $9.99 so i went ahead and got journey to the center of the earth while i was there. it's just easier that way.

Well I live in Canada so the prices are natutally higher for movies here. A new release like Iron Man is a $29.99 movie whether you go to Futureshop or Walmart. You through 10% taxes on that and your at a grand total of about $33. I better really freakin like that movie for that amount of money as I could rent the same movie 5 times before it would cost me that much. About the cheapest a new release will be is $26.99, ocassionally I can get some for $19.99 but that's old movies like The Shining.

I still want to buy blurays I just don't wanna go bonkers and buy anything cause it happened with DVD and I ended up with stuff I watched a couple times then never again. So BD's yes but just the stuff I really want (Pixars, LOTR, Matrix, Starwars, and a few other outsiders why not).

I only buy the movies that are worth watching on Blu. I only buy movies I know I can watch over 10 times and that is why my collection is only at 7, No one is forcing you to buy every single movie that comes out.. Just buy the movies you like.
