I've slimmed down my DVD collection, just because some of the films I just will never watch again. I like collecting movies and know that if we want to watch Kurosawa's Ran, I have it! I don't have to run out and find it, especially since where I live it's winter 6 months out of the year (or more).

I'm probably down to ~ 700 DVD's and about 85 blu's, The DVD totals though include TV series, so the actual number of titles is probably less.

I have a few blu's to sell as I didn't like them as much as I thought I would.

I really have an issue with upgrading my DVD's and probably will only do so if I get a really good deal.

Bottom line, I like selection whether it's 12 angry men or I am legend or Big Fish, I've got them at my fingertips.

It's in my top 10 all time movies, ever.

(the one in 57, not 97 - that was a travesty)

I ahve been for the last year and a half been buying BDs and selling many on the forums. I have decided that purposly trying to grow a big BD collection is REALLY REALLY becoming pointless for me personally. I have purchased many BDs and I think only about 8-10 of them are movies that are movies I could really call purchase worthy.

As of right now I am deciding to be extremely tight about what I buy.

I've thought about it and I think videogaming is a far better place to put my cash as I can out dozens of hours or more into a game that cost $59.99 compared to only watching a $29.99 once or twice for a grand total of about 2-5 hours of entertainment.

Gonna be doing a lot more renting form now on when it comes to movies.
I totally agree with you, I myself only and I mean ONLY buy movies on blu that are truly worthy. Since I'm not into videogames I don't buy any. I also rent blu's that is if I see a title I might be interested in watching.

First of all you should start doing some deal hunting and NEVER be paying anything close to $29.99!! . I have gotten most of my collection for $19.99 or less and that includes new releases the week they came out. Back to the topic, I have a rather large collection of Blu-rays and some I have yet to get to watch and their are some that I should sell since I don't want them anymore. Overall though I love it when I'm in the mood for a movie and I have alot of movies to choose from with a variety in all different genres. Plus my wife has certain movies she wants to watch as well so having a big selection is great. I certainly have been pickier lately with what I buy but there have been so many great releases in the last couple months!

I’ve seen people in WalMart browsing through the DVD titles and saying things like “How about this one – is it any good” “I don’t know, I’ve never seen it, but it has
__________ (actor) in it, and it looks like it might be good” They’re judging whether or not to buy based on things like cover art. I’ve heard the same conversations in the rental store, but people weren’t buying, they were renting. I just don’t get why someone would buy a movie they’ve never seen. Rent it, and if you like it, then buy it.

Is that a good use of money? Probably not, but it makes me happy.

It is worth pointing out in my defense that I watch my favorite movies many, many times. There are titles that I have watched multiple times in EACH format -- to say nothing of having seen them in the theatre!

To each his or her own . . .
+1...In my case, I see no point in collecting movies as I need the extra money to spend on more non-luxury items. Even if I didn't have some short term responsibilities, I have learned from my past. I have DVDs on my shelf that I have never watched and I see no point in knowingly spending money on things I know I will most likely never watch. You are basically throwing your money away. I do however see a collector's point of view. For example, imagine Star Wars figurine collectors. Many are kept in the original packaging and not played with, which to me seems like it defeats the purpose. It seems that these people do it because they truly love the subject matter and it is a nice hobby. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. As sbjork said, to each his own.

i only buy the ones i know i will watch more than 5 times. I have a small collection compared to most here, but its good enough for me. i also still rent for those ones i want to see but not own.

kids movies are a must as they watch them enough to get your monies worth
