Default IPod or Zune...

Hello. Here's the story: I'm planning on getting a portable mp3-type player that is good for both music & movies (aka digital copies). I have virtually no experience with ITunes/IPods, and realize that some digital copies don't even work on IPods... Any advice?

You should also consider an ARCHOS

Zune Pros = cheaper, more sturdy, BIGGER HDD space, easier navigation(Device and software), Tv Shows, games, Audio book support

Zune Cons - The store, while its still growing, it needs work, No Digital download support(Movies), (YET)

Ipod Pros = Applications ( newer mdoels) and Itunes store,Touch screen, Digital Downloads work

Ipod Cons, Too expensive, Not enough space, Apple

If your buying an Mp3 player FOR MP3S ZUne is your way to go, but if your buying a mp3 player for whatever it comes with first, and a music second, then IPOD.

Even though ipod Touch, is seriously over priced.

I would look at the Zune or ARCHOS..

Ipods are gloriflied doo doo....

Actually, if you work out and/or run, grab yourself a shuffle...

If you're going to be watching movies, you want the space.. So get the 120GB Zune.... You will not be disappointed.

Wow, thanks for the quick help guys. I figured lots would be promoting solely the IPods, but thats not the case here. I don't really think they're worth the price personally. At this point, I think that I may be leaning toward the 80 or 120GB Zune(prob 120 due to little price difference)...

EDIT: Looks like there are a LOT of DVD Digital Copies that do not want to work on a Zune. Mainly Warner Bros. & Universal titles. Now leaning toward IPod... Any advantages to an Archos?

If you want something that will integrate (at least something that will sound good) with a factory/aftermarket stereo in a car, get an iPod. Nobody is really making anything for any of the other devices.

iPod Classic 120GB, rip all your CDs in Apple Lossless. You won't regret it.

i've had both and i think the zune is the better choice. it works right out the gate without hardly any trouble. i haven't had any problems with my original zune. and the zune is for more than just music. it handles movies and pictures wonderfully.

I have a 16GB touch. Happy with it. Battery is good and the interface is nice. It did crap out on me once but that's when I jailbroke it. After a firmware upgrade that hasn't happened since. I will not be jailbreaking it again.

The iPod Touch would be nice, however... I like my films to be presented properly, and it doesn't seem to take in anamorphic transfers. So if I put The Dark Knight digital copy on one in December, it would stretch the image out thus making it look crappy. Too bad because the screen size seems good. I don't plan on watching many movies on one of these devices(I will not become one of those people), I just want to take advantage of the fact that I can.

I've got an 80GB zune that I bought because it had the larger screen. Now the iPods have the larger screen (I think).

I really like my Zune a lot, and would probably get another because I don't use it for movies like I thought I would.

But what about a PSP? Doesn't that play movies & MP3's too? I don't have one so I dont' know, but it seems that would be more versatile unless you really want something that will fit in your pocket.

Ipod or Archos.

My first mp3 player was a 10GB Archos Jukebox... that thing looked massive, still had a full size 2.5" hdd in it. The best thing about it was that you did not need ANY software at all. Just use the USB plug, and it shows up as a harddrive. Drag and Drop songs or whole folders of bands and that's it.
Very simply to navigate as well. The only thing why I had to replace it was that the battery died at some point (won't even last 5 minutes now) and it was cheaper to buy a new Ipod Mini at the time than replacing the battery (as you had to send it in to them).

Then had the Ipod Mini (dead battery after almost 3 years) got a 2nd gen 4GB Nano and an 80GB classic for the wife. I just bought a 16GB touch last month and end up getting an Iphone for the wife next month.
Could not be any happier with them.

Our neighbor has a Zune and had to exchange it twice already because it just stopped working after a month. So I'll keep away from these.

I would consider buying another Archos. They got those DVR capable ones now, but quite expensive - http://www.archos.com/products/imt/a...global&lang=en

BTW I am still using the 10GB Archos as an external harddrive...

all of my friends and siblings have had ipods. ipods seam to have issues with reliability. they seem to crash a lot and a bunch of other weird issues have happened. i can't say anything about the zune because i've never owned one or know anyone that's owned one.

Sounds like they all have their flaws. I've been checking out the Archos for the past little bit. Glad to see they show films properly, but the price and charge times aren't all that great. iPod I would rather not support, plus it sounds like they're not too too reliable.
