20GB stores a lot of download-quality video or anything, how can that be pointless?

I imagine it has more so to do with launch time-frame than anything.

Of course, my opinion on the matter is just release whatever size hard-drive fits the budget on the unit each refresh...

If you care that much, just buy a new hdd yourself, they're standardized.

If your gonna upgrade the hdd, you might as well make it more then 20gb. Especially with the Elite @ 120gb.

It may not cost them any or significantly more to use an 80GB HDD over a 60GB HDD now, a 120GB drive would.

The PS3 has a Blu-ray drive, it's rather more useful and expensive than a 40GB larger HDD.

But you will need to upgrade a 80gb some day, as the ps3 has a 10 year life. Should have put it to 120gb, just to piss MS off at least.

Oh god, not the 10-year thing again.

The PS3 will go through a similar lifecycle to the PS and PS2, 6-7 years as the main focus, then another 3 as the cheap but still profitable machine while the next-generation PlayStation (PS4) gets up to speed.

But unlike the 360, you don't need to use an official hard drive with the PS3. If you want 120gbs, then go ahead and buy one on your own. Simple as that.

Exactly, so what is the point in making a bigger HDD???? If you do it, do it properly, if not, don't do it.

Well it was sony that said about the 10 year thing. Xbox 3 will be out in '09. Will the PS3 beat that???

I don't see it coming out that soon. 2010 at the earliest. Just my opinion though.

3 years is no lifespan for a console so that'll be a stupid move by M$, 2012 might be the time it comes out and PS4 2013-2014 cause the PS3 can last a customer upto 10 years(what PS2's doing) and after all the failure rate no-one's gonna buy 1 unless they take out GOW2(i'll buy that) and Halo4: Finish The Finishing Fight(Hate Halo

So im guessing 09 will have a new xbox and the 360 will be cut off like the orginal xbox and i bet they still be making ps2 games by then, microsoft really have a problem with being able to cope with endurence.
